The social care sector is indispensable to the UK economy.
Every £100 spent on social care reduces NHS spending by £35.
The sector contributes around £68.1bn annually to the economy.
Every £1 invested in social care brings £2.36 in socioeconomic benefits.

News. The learning disability charity @Hftonline has set out a new long-term strategy to ensure adults with learning disabilities are not forgotten or ‘shut out’ from society.

Today's Budget completely ignores our broken social care system that is leaving hundreds of thousands of people, including many with a learning disability, struggling without the care they need.
Read our response. 👇 #Budget2024
ALT “Increasing numbers of local authorities are going bankrupt and being forced to cut services, including social care. Dedicated, skilled workers are leaving the sector in droves because there isn’t enough funding to pay them the wages they deserve.
“People with a learning disability are being left waiting for assessments and care, isolated and without support to stay well, with their families plugging the gaps. All the while, demand for social care among working age adults is increasing. Social care is a spiralling crisis and only adequate funding will fix it.”
ALT “As part of our Why We Care campaign, we are urging Government to urgently invest £8.4 billion into the social care system to ensure people's care needs can be met and our social care workforce be properly recognised for the skilled and vital work they do.
“This investment would boost the economy, ease pressure on the NHS and ensure the most vulnerable in society are supported to lead full and independent lives.”
No mention of #socialcare in today's #Budget2024.
A vulnerable section of the population is once again ignored.
And sadly, without investment in our sector, welcome new funding and proposals for the #NHS will be damaged and undermined.
An opportunity missed.
@Jeremy_Hunt
Ahead of the #SpringBudget we are calling on @Jeremy_Hunt to prioritise disabled people. This must include funding for #localgov to cover the full cost of services and National Living Wage increases.
Without this, essential services will cease to exist.

Many young disabled people want to work but the current system doesn't support them. Investing in disabled people means better access to tailored employment support, assistive technology in job centres and working alongside employers to create real change.

The Electoral Commission works with disabled people to make the voting process more accessible & welcoming but excludes disabled people from their new TV advert. Yet another barrier that disabled people face when accessing their democratic right to vote.
