Treasury’s proposed COINS Act rules could restrict U.S. investments in foreign biotechnology companies, with little justification for treating ordinary pharmaceutical development as a national security threat. #HealthCareamericanactionforum.org/insi…
The Treasury’s proposed COINS Act rules extend outbound investment restrictions to biotechnology, but vague definitions risk hindering U.S. biopharma innovation without clearly establishing national security benefits. #Eakinomicsamericanactionforum.org/dail…
Epic’s new feature could help patients find lower prices, but transparency alone does not address manufacturer prices, negotiated rebates, or other factors driving prescription drug spending. #WeeklyCheckupamericanactionforum.org/week…
FACT OF THE DAY: The Treasury reports that in fiscal year 2026, interest payments on the national debt totaled $1.1 trillion, surpassing spending on national defense.
Epic Systems launched Prescription Marketplace, allowing patients to compare prescription prices across pharmacies, including cash options. While price transparency may help patients find cheaper medications, will it lower costs and improve adherence?

DOE’s 315,000-barrel heating oil release is unlikely to meaningfully lower Northeast prices. The volume is limited, deliveries take time, global disruptions sustain costs, and distribution expenses remain high.

Treasury’s COINS Act proposal would restrict certain investments involving China and other countries of concern. Its broad approach to pharmaceuticals risks limiting investment without adequately demonstrating national security benefits.

Heating oil prices surged 74% year-over-year, hitting $6.19 per gallon in October 2026. DOE will release up to one-third of the Northeast reserve, but global disruptions and pipeline constraints continue to pressure prices.

Lower mortgage costs and fewer barriers to factory-built #housing are welcome, but savings must not come at the expense of taxpayers. Lasting affordability requires more homes and less federal involvement.

DOE will loan up to one-third of the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve to combat surging energy prices. The limited release is unlikely to meaningfully ease costs amid global market disruptions.

President Trump’s housing EO seeks to lower mortgage and refinancing costs, expand factory-built #housing, and reduce rates on certain federal loans, but does little to address underlying housing supply constraints.

A new House draft bill would give the FTC and DOJ exclusive authority over certain mergers. Supporters cite lower costs and complexity, while critics warn it would weaken states’ ability to check federal enforcers and address local harms. #Antitrustamericanactionforum.org/insi…
President Trump’s housing EO could lower borrowing costs and ease construction barriers, but largely overlooks #housing supply constraints and raises concerns about taxpayer exposure and federal involvement.

New @AAF paper in @politico's Morning Energy today:
U.S. residential heating oil prices surged 74% y-o-y to $6.19/gallon in October.
At Sen. Susan Collins and Angus King's request, DOE will release up to one third of the Northeast Reserve by Nov. 13.
But 315,000 barrels are a drop in the bucket of needed supply: it accounts for less than one day of total U.S. consumption of heating oil in the winter season, and about 12 days of residential consumption in Maine.
The emergency release is unlikely to deliver meaningful consumer price relief.

As states expand #antitrust enforcement, a new House draft bill would give the FTC and DOJ exclusive review authority over certain interstate and international mergers, limiting state involvement while preserving local competition.
