Daily Prayer for October 30 Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord. - Psalm 117 Lord our God, we thank you that we may come to you and that our spirits can reach out for your help and your comfort. May we draw strength from communion with you, our Father. May we realize more fully that we are your children, truly your children, who throughout our pilgrimage are allowed to know you as our refuge and our help. Remember our world, and grant that many hearts awaken and turn to you, looking to you in all the fear and need which sweep over many people in our time. Let your Spirit be revealed to our hearts in quiet, bringing many experiences from you, O Lord our God, and from your kingdom. Protect us every day in the many lands throughout the earth. For the nations are yours; they shall receive life and blessing from you, and at last your kingdom will be revealed in all the world, to the eternal glory of your name. Amen.

You alone, Lord, make us dwell in safety. Abide with us, Lord Jesus, For the night is at hand and the day is now past. As the night watch looks for the morning, So do we look for you, O Christ. #goodnight

In Martin Luther's own words, how the Reformation began: "When in 1517 indulgences were sold (I wanted to say promulgated) in these regions for disgraceful profit, I was a preacher, a young Doctor of Theology, as they say. I began to dissuade the people from lending an ear to the shouts of the indulgence-sellers. I told them that they had better things to do and that I was sure that in these matters I had the pope on my side. I was relying greatly on his trustworthiness, since in his decrees he had very clearly condemned the excesses of the quaestors as he called the indulgence preachers. "Shortly thereafter I wrote two letters, one to Albert, the archbishop of Mainz, who was getting half the money from the indulgences (the other half was going to the pope, a fact of which I was at the time ignorant),the other to the ordinary of the place, Jerome, bishop of Brandenburg. I begged them to put a stop to the shameless blasphemy of the quaestors, but they despised this poor little brother. Therefore, finding myself despised, I published a list of theses and, at the same time, a sermon in German on indulgences. A little later I published the "Explanations," in which, in deference to the pope, I maintained that indulgences should not be condemned but that the works of charity should be preferred to them. "What I did toppled heaven and consumed earth by fire. I am denounced to the pope, commanded to go to Rome, and the entire papacy rises up against me alone. These things happened in 1518 when Maximilian was holding the Diet at Augsburg, at which Cardinal Cajetan was the legate of the pope...." Martin of Erfurt, born in 1483 of German peasant stock, was a monk (more exactly, a regular canon) of the Order of Saint Augustine, and a Doctor of Theology. In his day, the Church was at a spiritual low. Church offices were openly sold to the highest bidder, and not nearly enough was being done to combat the notion that forgiveness of sins was likewise for sale. Indeed, many Christians, both clergy and laity, were most inadequately instructed in Christian doctrine. Startling as it seems to us today, there were then no seminaries for the education of the clergy. There were monastic schools, but they concentrated on the education of their own monks. Parish priests, ordinarily having no monastic background, were in need of instruction themselves, and in no way prepared to instruct their congregations. Brother Martin set out to remedy this. He wrote a simple catechism for the instruction of the laity which is still in use today, as is his translation of the Scriptures into the common tongue. His energy as a writer was prodigious. From 1517, when he first began to write for the public, until his death, he wrote on the average one book a fortnight.

Reflection: Some days are so good we wish they could last forever: a long lunch with an old friend, a table full of laughter on a holiday, a golden afternoon when everything feels right. But even the best days end. Before we know it, the sun is down, the dishes are done, and it’s over. David delighted in the good things God gave him. “The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places,” he wrote. Yet his greatest joy was God Himself: “You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.” Eternal pleasures. Not for an afternoon, but forever. When Peter preached at Pentecost, he said this psalm was speaking of Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. Jesus has walked the path of life out of the grave, and He opens it to everyone who belongs to Him. So enjoy each day’s gifts, and when a happy day ends, you can let it go with a thankful heart. Every one of its joys came from Him. And in His presence, the joy won’t end when the day does. Ask Yourself: Which good day would I love to have back, and what would I like to tell God about it? What small joy could I share with someone today?

Good morning, friends. Lord, as we take on the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit today, we claim the victory that comes from being anchored in You. Have a blessed and beautiful day. 🙏🇺🇸☀️ “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God:” Ephesians 6:17 (KJV) ⚔️

Good Morning & Happy Friday! The story of Daniel is one of my favorites (ok, they’re all my favorite but this happens to be what I’m reading thru right now 😂). Given the “season” I thought this might be a fun read/reminder for Halloween conversations or evangelism. The world takes fm the Bible & uses it for “scary” movies but yet also does not give Him the glory He is due. Kind of like in this story.. I like it because it is so supernatural & just — wow! The power of God! The love He has.. to continue to try & reach idolaters & give them another chance to yet repent.. I can’t even begin to imagine how terrified the king must’ve been to see this.. can you? It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God. 😳 I am also thankful that we in Christ need only to fear God. He is so good! Faithful & True. Rich in mercy, as we see so clearly here. He could’ve just wiped them all out at once, but He didn’t. He reached out to them, quite literally.. 😂 A fun snippet from Daniel 5:1-9. I pray it blesses you. King Belshazzar held a great feast for a thousand of his nobles, & he drank wine with them. Under the influence of the wine, Belshazzar gave orders to bring in the gold & silver vessels that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king could drink from them, along with his nobles, his wives, & his concubines. Thus they brought in the gold vessels that had been taken from the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, & the king drank from them, along with his nobles, his wives, & his concubines. As they drank the wine, they praised their gods of gold & silver, bronze & iron, wood & stone. The Handwriting on the Wall ‼️✍️ <<At that moment the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace.>> ✍️‼️ As the king watched the hand that was writing, his face grew pale & his thoughts so alarmed him that his hips gave way & his knees knocked together. The king called out for the enchanters, astrologers, & diviners to be brought in, & he said to these wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this inscription and tells me its interpretation will be clothed in purple & have a gold chain placed around his neck, & he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.” So all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the inscription or interpret it for him. Then King Belshazzar became even more terrified, his face grew even more pale, and his nobles were bewildered.

RFK Jr. and HHS just announced the first major update to America’s infant formula standards in nearly 30 YEARS. FDA is proposing stronger nutrient requirements while reviewing all 30 nutrients currently required in infant formula. The agency is also testing formula for chemical contaminants and launching a new public dashboard so parents can see the results themselves. Most samples tested showed low or non-detectable contaminant levels, but FDA is continuing work to establish stronger action levels. Parents deserve to know exactly what is in the formula they are feeding their babies.
