We’re pleased to share AAPM&R’s new position statement, recently published in PM&R, the Academy’s scientific journal, that looks at how social drivers of health affect the patients PM&R physicians serve.
The article draws on research on people with disabilities, whom the NIH recognizes as a population with health disparities, and provides examples from areas where PM&R leads in rehabilitation including the areas of stroke, musculoskeletal care, cancer, pain medicine and limb loss, limb difference and limb preservation.
It also considers how PM&R’s whole-person, function-focused approach affords physiatrists the unique position to care for people with disabilities as they utilize the biopsychosocial approach that incorporates SDOH for their patients.
Our sincere thanks to authors for their work on this important topic. Read the full article in PM&R: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
