Last month, Africa CDC’s Northern Africa RCC launched the Northern Africa Health Promotion and Community Engagement for Social and Behaviour Change Community of Practice in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The workshop established a Regional Executive Committee and developed a regional workplan to guide coordinated action and strengthen Member State ownership. Member State-led, Africa CDC-stewarded and partner-supported, the platform will connect peer learning and evidence with policy, financing and service delivery, embedding SBC within public health systems to strengthen community trust, improve access and uptake, and advance continental #HealthSecurity. #AfricaReady #NorthernAfrica #AfricaCDC_RCC

A Community Health Worker gets trained, earns his/her community’s trust, starts saving lives. Then the project ends, and so does her pay. That is what happens when a programme runs on short-term partner funding. You cannot institutionalise something you’re renting. Lasting scale will come when CHWs are part of the system itself, with funded posts, a place on the public payroll, and steady domestic financing behind them. Partners can then walk this road with us, but the foundation should be ours. #AfricaCDC #CommunityHealthWorkers #HealthWorkforce #PrimaryHealthCare #HealthSecurity #CHW2030 #fmohnigeria #UNICEF

To support Kenya’s ongoing response to Bundibugyo virus disease, Africa CDC handed over 500 doses of Remdesivir to Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards in Nairobi. The Government of Rwanda donated the antiviral therapeutic for compassionate use at the Government of Kenya’s request, following bilateral coordination facilitated by Africa CDC. Africa CDC will also support healthcare worker training and facilitate the deployment of experts from Uganda to strengthen clinical care. This collaboration demonstrates African solidarity and the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda in action.

In three days, a single Ebola case moved from the DRC through Uganda into Kenya. Dr Wessam Mankoula, Director of Emergency of Africa CDC describes how the case travelled. He also explains how Africa CDC brought Kenya, the DRC and Uganda together within 24 hours to share information, trace the case’s movement and strengthen contact tracing. It is a clear example of why regional coordination matters when outbreaks cross borders. Click on the link to watch the full video: piped.video/PSNnMuFL_eg #AfricaReady#AfricaRespond

Four new cases have been confirmed in Kenya, bringing the total to seven, including one death. All four were identified among people already in quarantine. Dr @WessamMankoula explains one key indicator: are new cases coming from the contact list, or from outside it? 🟢 From the list = low risk 🟥 Outside the list = the virus is spreading undetected Learn about the latest updates | Ebola Response: ow.ly/5VA750ZYIT8 #EbolaResponse #Kenya #AfricaResponds #RDC

Africa CDC reaffirms its support to Kenya following the confirmation of four additional Ebola cases. Kenya has now reported seven cases, including one death. Three of the newly confirmed cases involve healthcare workers. All four new cases were detected among individuals already in quarantine, underscoring the importance of active surveillance, contact tracing and early detection in containing transmission. Africa CDC commends the Government of Kenya for its leadership and swift public health response. As the outbreak continues in the DRC, Africa CDC is working closely with national authorities and regional partners to strengthen cross-border coordination, support frontline health workers and protect communities. Early detection saves lives. Regional solidarity strengthens our response. Read our statement: africacdc.org/news-item/afri…

H.E. @Dr_JeanKaseya on @TRTWorld: Africa CDC is working with donors, partners and the government of #DRC to trace Ebola funds, so that every resource reaches the response. #Ebola #SharedAccountability S.E.
On @trtworld today, I spoke about Ebola funding for DRC. More than $700 million given to implementing partners has not been declared to the government. Doctors still lack protective equipment, and health centres lack medicines. Accountability has to be shared. Donors and partners now have the chance to show the same transparency they ask of Africa. In 2018, Africa had about 4.3 million health workers. By 2024, that number reached 5.72 million. That is about 700,000 more nurses, doctors, midwives and other health workers in six years. Community health workers alone now number around 1.06 million. For many families in rural areas, they are the first, and often the only, link to care. But these numbers represent less than 50% of the health workforce Africa needs to meet Universal Health Coverage targets by 2030. The shortage is easing, but slowly. It has gone from 6.1 million to 5.85 million. We are moving in the right direction, but not fast enough. Africa must train, recognize, regulate, remunerate and empower its health workers faster and at a far larger scale. #AfricaCDC #PrimaryHealthCare #HealthSecurity #CHW2030 #fmohnigeria #UNICEF

--- On RTNC, I spoke about the progress of the Congolese government's response and the tracking of funds mobilised. We know what partners have committed and what they have disbursed. The government will now follow up closely with each of them, so every dollar reaches the frontline. When communities lead, resistance falls away. Movements are reported and contacts identified earlier.
