Built first business from $0 to 7-figures & exited. | Building a next level franchise as the COO of Laundry Spot and Ohio Franchisee

Ohio
I’m the COO of Laundry Spot. I’m also a franchisee along with @ADbriggs66 to build out 10 stores in the Cleveland territory. Which means every process I build, I have to execute myself. That changes how I think about things. When I began building the Operations Manual, I was able to put myself in the shoes of a franchisee to determine if the contents would be helpful. Or when I write a site selection playbook and then go tour 10 spaces myself, I quickly reveal which parts were useful and which parts were just words on a page. It’s the shortest feedback loop I’ve ever had in an Ops role. Which I think is a super power. Also, humbling at times. But I’d rather find the gaps myself than wait for a franchisee to tell me about them weeks or months after the fact. Best way I know to support our franchisees is to do the job alongside them.

Be honest, if AI implodes and we’re all sent back to the 90s with land lines, analog cars, and no useful internet… Would you be better or worse off? Fearful or opportunistic? Could your business survive or would it go down with the mother ship? I’m not a doom and gloom guy whatsoever but it does make you think.

I’ve only ever seen heat shrink wrap used for boat storage, industrial equipment transport, etc. Never for wrapping patio furniture for the winter. Kind of genius in my opinion. Hardly a change of pace for the companies who offer wrap services. They even include air vents before any comments about mold and mildew.

Middle of trick or treating in our neighborhood a sub-contracted amazon driver is weaving through the chaos to make his deliveries. No days off for Amazon.

When you hire the cheapest contractor who is available the next day… Only to call a better contractor to fix the job.

I made it 3 weeks on the Claude pro plan vibe coding an internal ops platform with 8 different modules before I had to upgrade to Max. Was only 2 hours away from usage reset too. However, I could accomplish a lot in those 2 hours instead of waiting. It's becoming more expensive to fuel the addiction.

We’re watching a K-shaped split in operations. AI is incredible for continuous improvement, and brutal when you have to roll it out across a whole org and get people bought in while the changes never stop. I feel lucky to be building again with a lean team. We’re improving processes at maybe 10x the pace I could with my last business, without AI and with a much bigger crew.
It’s almost incomprehensible how wide the distance is between someone who’s working at the frontier with AI and basically everyone else right now. The crazy thing is these lines are not converging, but only growing farther apart. If the curve of AI progress had leveled off, it would certainly have given most people and companies time to catch up or implement their workflows in a standardized way. The technology would have neutralized competitive advantage because everyone would be using it the same way. But what’s happened is the opposite. The curve of AI progress is basically going vertical right now, which means if you had codified your processes 3-6 months ago you’re likely already behind again. Now imagine most companies that kicked into gear a year ago and thought that they were done. Even further behind now. I’ve never seen a technology in my life and career that improves at this rate, which consequently means you need to upgrade your expectations at a similar rate. Our brains weren’t wired for this, and our organizational change management processes certainly weren’t either. With any form of recursive self improvement, things just get wilder. It’s a time when you will need to be constantly reevaluating the things that didn’t work just a couple months ago to see if they now can be solved. AI native companies certainly have a strong advantage due to this right now, so now it comes down to can the bigger companies keep up. Wild times.

Who else here had a ridiculous car audio system in HS or College? Bonus if you drop of photo of your setup in the comments.
I really miss the circuit city car audio section

Nahuel is no stranger to risk. We’ve become buddies over the last year and some of the stories he has moving his entire life from Argentina to Miami, FL are crazy. One of the best guys I know. Would give you the shirt off his back. Yet, has endless battle wounds from growing Iris into a brand. Excited to watch him follow his intuition and get more studios open in new cities.
I doubled revenue in one year. All I had to do was follow my gut. 11 years in Miami. 1 year in Nashville. Today they go head to head on revenue. Is it that easy? No. Those 11 years did the heavy lifting. Nashville looks like an overnight success because Miami spent a decade earning the name. So the reasonable move now? Build another one. Right? Right… One US studio to two took me 10 years. I want five in the next 3. Do I know how? Of course not.

I want to take a moment to chat about limiting beliefs. Don't worry, I'm not going to get all philosophical on you. Limited beliefs as it related to building a business. For the better part of 6 months, I've wanted to attempt to build an internal operations platform. Not an overly complex ERP but something that was more tailored to our business than what was available off the shelf. I also wanted a single platform, not 3-5 SaaS products to manage everything. I felt a central system was especially important with franchisees. So I did what any non-dev would do and I ask every AI platform how to accomplish this. In April, it said it couldn't be vibe coded. In June, it said I may be able to get a rough MVP but we would need to engage a dev team early and plan to spend $100-500k over 1-2 years. I was discouraged and focused on other tasks so I didn't revisit it until this month. A buddy of mine vibe coded a simple ops platform and some other super cool tools for his business in a week. He gave me a login and I was blown away. I knew my product was going to require a bigger lift but it finally squashed the limiting belief that it couldn't be done. Now I'm fully aware AI advances rapidly and Claude Code, Codex, etc. different today than it was 6 months ago. But I didn't even try to click the claude code button. Not once... And I'm somebody who likes pushing the limits to figure out how far I can take something. I was frustrated with myself for not even trying. Fast forward to today and I'm close to having a MVP to share with the team and I have a lot more confidence we can go live with this product for our franchise system. A human dev team will enter the picture at some point but for now I'm learning a lot and having a blast. It's also entirely possible I hit an impassable moment and "fail". But whatever I learn through this experience will be valuable and more specifically, be a reminder that limiting beliefs can creep up on you without you even noticing.

I have 2 seasons under my belt with my @HannaGolfCo putter and it took 5+ strokes off my game. Great weight and balance. All around smoother feel. I selfishly hope I win this so I can add a center shaft to the bag. If not, whoever wins will not be disappointed.
We are giving away a Brushed Battleship finish @HannaGolfCo putter. Here is how to win. • Retweet this tweet • Fill out the form in the next tweet You can choose from any of our models (including the center shafts we are dropping next week). Runs through 10/30 at 7:00 PM. Winner will be selected by 10/31 at 10:00 AM. I think this will end up being our most popular finish. Have had several orders over the last few days switch to it! Back to the lab.

So I've got this friend... he's brilliant. Has a new business idea or invention on a weekly basis. Endlessly creative, but limited by his 9-to-5. I know I've also got a soft spot for people looking to "take a shot!" If you do too, you'll appreciate this story. He has a huge family (siblings, nieces, nephews). They share a family camp in south MS, and spend plenty of time fishing and boardgame-playing. So what'd he do? Spend two years re-crafting the family classic "go fish!" that you all know. Familiar game, with lots of new snags and twists. My kids and I have played the game. It's A LOT of fun, especially for the young ones (7-12). If you're looking for a Christmas gift for a family or some old-school fun for kids, this might be a great option! If you're not, but appreciate an underdog story, I'd be very thankful for a share. Either way, how cool is this? Go build something. Have some fun. Take a chance. kickstarter.com/projects/sna…

I’ve spent some time over the last week learning about Meta ads and worked on building 3 different ad sets. I have way more respect for those who run ad campaigns, filter through all the variables, and monitor ad spend. Makes your head spin at first.

Nice parking garages have lights to show if a spot is available. So we did the same thing for our washers. A way better customer experience than peeking into every machine. Alone, none of these little decisions are revolutionary, but the compounding effect of them is.

Show me a more American post than this. You can’t.
you can just raise tens of millions of dollars and >build factories >write code >supply america's industrial base with your absolute boys

Another observation is Claude is always hesitant when asking about integrating another AI to the workflow. Jumps to worst case scenario and references a single article where somebody said something bad happened. Grok Bot is open to collaboration and is just down to figure shit out. Seems way less biased and a superior general problem solver.
Every time I bring up Grok Bot in a Claud chat it always acts like it doesn't know what Grok Bot is. It always has to "check what Grok Bot currently refers too..." Tried and true petty competition.

Jokes on Claude. I set up a Dev Bot to review all of Claude Code's work even after Claude checks it itself.

Bold custom tile sink. Not my style but incredible craftsmanship. If you were renovating your bathroom would you opt for something like this if budget was irrelevant?
