'Canada's most serious and least racist white journalist'. I make skateboard videos about politics. BC Leg and Politics Reporter for the Western Standard

I've been in Ukraine for a week now and will be staying for at least another two weeks. There's an overabundance of things to write about here from on-the-ground. So please feel free to AMA, I guess.

In a sense, I feel sort of stupid and naive for expecting anything less before coming here. It's not as if the eruption of a war brings regular life to a complete stop. It just changes things in weird and unexpected ways.

There are elements of Ukrainian society that seem completely foreign, but others that are entirely familiar. The 6-7 phenomenon, for example, appears to have made its way to Odessa. (I still don't get it).

Shooting missiles at kids trying to play hockey in Ukraine is worse.
Not letting Russian kids play hockey in Canada is retarded.

Another foreign journalist has been hired to cover BC politics. Welcome to the jungle @MarkColley!
Absolutely thrilled to welcome @MarkColley to our ranks! Mark joins the @nytimes Canada team as our new -first!- Express reporter. He'll be based in Vancouver. A loss for @TorontoStar where he has been much loved, a gain for us. nytco.com/press/express-desk…

One reason many Canadian conservatives are celebrating MAGA's midterm defeat is that Trump no longer represents traditional conservative or classical liberal values. Free markets, limited government, fiscal restraint, individual liberty and the rule of law have increasingly taken a back seat to personality politics, protectionism and executive overreach.
Canadian "Conservatives" are celebrating tonight's Democrat victory. That should tell you everything you need to know about the political landscape above the northern border.

The results in traditionally red states like Texas, Ohio, Iowa and Georgia reinforce the point. Voters haven't necessarily abandoned conservatism or classical liberalism. They've recognized that Trump has. Conservativism requires more than saying 'edgy' things. DJT lost the plot.

One of the 'underrated things about war' (I hate war), is it accelerates technological innovation that helps people everywhere. As an example, Ukraine has approximately 140,000 amputees. And it has become a world leader in prosthetic limb technology.

And now he's helping other amputees at a non-govt facility in Lviv specialising in prosthetic limbs in Lviv. They're doing incredible things — especially in terms of the psychological side. Amazing stuff.

The story behind the cat is it used to be a show piece at a corporate headquarters and they were intending to throw it away. Superhumans saved it and decided to put in front of the building because it helps people, on arrival, to not take themselves too seriously. Brilliant.
