Rather than treating limited health literacy as a fixed patient trait, the statement calls for healthcare systems and interprofessional teams to redesign how stroke education and communication are delivered. The evidence for nurse-led literacy interventions is encouraging but still developing, and the statement is candid about the gaps: few adequately powered trials, inconsistent outcome measures, and a lack of tools validated for the aphasia, limited-English-proficiency, and cognitively impaired survivors who need them most. This scientific statement synthesizes current evidence on health literacy and communication across the entire stroke continuum, from prevention through recovery, and identifies nurse-led opportunities to advance equity and patient-centered outcomes. 📷 Conceptual framework for advancing health literacy and effective communication across the stroke continuum

Meet the @NFL players helping us build a #NationOfLifesavers. More than half of people who experience cardiac arrest outside a hospital do not receive immediate CPR. That's why we're teaming up with the National Football League and the 2026 Nation of Lifesavers™ Ambassador Class to help more people learn Hands-Only CPR and be ready to act when every second counts. Take 60 seconds to learn the two simple steps of Hands-Only CPR. If a teen or adult collapses, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest until help arrives.
