The law is clear: the Government must consult with coastline communities before drilling into the oceans that sustain them. So why aren't First Nations people being told about offshore oil and gas developments across the Arafura and Timor Seas?

France’s proposed bill to make demonstrators pay for damage caused to property by acts of violence in protests, even if they did not cause it themselves, will have a chilling effect on freedom of peaceful assembly & must be rejected by lawmakers. Read: brnw.ch/21x6JiM

The struggle in Guanabara Bay in Brazil reflects a reality observed all over the world: fossil fuel projects benefit a few at the expense of nearby individuals and groups. But it also tells the story of community power: fishers leading the fight for environmental justice.

Thank you to everyone who showed up in person and online at our AGM & Annual Conference. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with new and old friends, longstanding supporters of Amnesty, and to hear from international colleagues and listen to spoken word by Amanda Adé.

87 Iranian officials identified as warranting criminal investigations. Based on extensive investigations, Amnesty International has exposed the chain of command behind the Iranian authorities' crimes against humanity to crush the 2022 Woman Life Freedom uprising. We name 87 officials who should be criminally investigated. Most of these officials remain in positions of authority enabling them to unleash further deadly repression, while some have climbed up the chain of command. This impunity emboldened the authorities to unlawfully kill thousands more protesters between 8 and 9 January 2026. The normalization of mass protest killings in Iran must end. Join us in calling on the UN Security Council to refer Iran's situation to the International Criminal Court and on the UN General Assembly to create an international criminal justice mechanism for Iran: amn.st/6014BGNy7w

Three years after the deadly Hamas-led attacks of 7 October and the start of Israel’s brutal military assault on Gaza Palestinian civilians continue to endure catastrophic suffering and genocide. Justice for victims of all crimes in Israel and the OPT remains out of reach.

Christa Pike, aged 50, is scheduled to be executed in Tennessee, USA, on 30 September 2026. She was convicted in 1996 of a 1995 murder committed when she was 18, barely out of a childhood in which she endured rape, sexual and physical violence, abuse and neglect. The state failed to protect her as a child despite having knowledge of what she was facing. Her court-appointed lawyers then failed her at her trial, presenting little of the mitigating evidence of this abuse or its psychological consequences. We urge the governor to stop this execution and grant clemency.

Every time someone speaks openly about abortion, it becomes a little harder for stigma and shame to thrive, and easier for people to access the healthcare they need. If you support abortion rights, don't stay silent. Share Dorothea’s story. #SafeAbortionDay
