My game, The King's Surveyor is built in a custom engine. Lots of people have asked me why. This is but one simple reason. Same walk, same camera, same FOV. The top has custom depth effects on while the bottom doesn't. Watch the tower. With the effects off it shrinks into the haze, like it would in any engine. With them on, it stays a place you want to walk to, like something out of storybook. My game is all about adventure and the unknown on the horizon pulling you forward. At noon Eastern today my game will finally get its name and a Steam page! One year ago this Saturday I started writing my own game engine. Today, I get to share what I've made (so far) with the world! While we wait, here are some chill vibes from inside the world I'm making.

I started my career ~10 years ago as a 3d artist. Slowly over that time I learned more and more, all in an effort to understand how to bring the art inside my head to life. Making my own game engine has been a magical experience and a culmination of everything I've learned. I sit on the eve of launching my first solo-developed steam game, in an engine I built, with nothing but excitement. Cannot wait for the road ahead!

Day 360 of making my own game engine 🔥 Today I finalize everything to announce the game and make the steam page live tomorrow! The teaser is done, the press kit assembled, the emails drafted. In less than a year, I've been able to build something from nothing, an engine of my own design, for the fantasy adventure game that is an homage to the sense of adventure and wonder that games brought me as a 90s child. Building this engine has been one of the hardest and most frustrating tasks I've taken on in my 10 year career in game dev. And thus, its also been the most rewarding. Making a world thats entirely my own, something that lets me translate what I see in my head into an actual playable game. I want to take this time to thank everyone for all the support, feedback, and advice over the past year! I hope you enjoy what I've been working on and sharing. Decayed ruins. An abandoned fire. I try to warm myself, if only for a moment, but my bones are drenched to their core and a bitter wind nips at my neck. There is no solace found here. Nevertheless, I must continue onward, for the path home is long. Adventure calls. I answer.

Im so excited. Final cut of the teaser is done. Steam page is all ready. YouTube is scheduled. Getting the press kit sorted.... I'll be announcing the game THIS TUESDAY! Still a long road ahead, but this milestone is exciting! All the skeletons have gathered to celebrate 🥳
