Movies are back! TV on the other hand is in the worst place it’s ever been in it’s history, even the giant successful shows like The Pitt or Widows Peak are hollow husks, numbers that are comparable to forgettable shit like Blue Bloods & Castle from a decade ago
SAG-AFTRA is doing damage control as the actors’ union is forced to confront how the ongoing domestic production decline has crippled its membership.
The union revealed some sobering numbers over the weekend during the national board’s in-person plenary, including the fact that less than 1% of its members will so far stand to benefit from the bonus distribution fund that the above-the-line guilds pushed for during the 2023 negotiations with the AMPTP deadline.com/2026/10/sag-aft…
ELEPHANT was released 23 years ago today.
Gus Van Sant’s austere, long-take drama won both the Palme d’Or and Best Director at Cannes, yet its refusal to explain or sensationalize school violence still divides audiences.

Released in 1996 as the second single from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, “1979” became the Smashing Pumpkins' biggest American hit, reaching No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on both the Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. The album was eventually certified 10× Platinum in the United States. “1979” was almost left off the album: producer Flood gave Corgan a final deadline to complete the unfinished song or remove it from the record. Corgan went home, finished the lyrics that night, and returned the next day with a new demo that convinced Flood to keep it.
Billy Corgan wrote the track as a nostalgic reflection on adolescence and the transition into adulthood. Although the title refers specifically to the year Corgan was 12, the song is less a literal autobiography than an idealised reflection on what it felt like to be young.

It’s fascinating that you can be in the upper upper echelons of the industry with the best writers, producers, directors, technicians and still never fucking learn what makes a movie be good
