BREAKING: SWEET KARMA! Democrat Scott Colom, who is about to win the Mississippi Senate seat, only ran after his MAGA opponent stopped him from obtaining a lifetime federal judge position! This is one of the most glorious backfires in American history... Back in November of 2022, President Biden nominated Colom to the federal district court in northern Mississippi. He received support from the state's senior senator, Republican Roger Wicker. But Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, who Colom is now leading by 1,764 in the vote count from Tuesday, refused to support the nomination. In fact, she blocked the Senate from even considering him by withholding her blue slip, an old Senate custom that lets one home-state senator veto a judge. She defended her indefensible move by insisting that he couldn't be trusted with such power because of past support for transgender rights. In reality, she was just pandering to the racist MAGA base by blocking a Black Democrat. But if she hadn't blocked him, Colom would be a judge right now. Instead, he's poised to take Hyde-Smith's seat, flipping a seat that a Democrat hasn't been able to win since 1972 in a state that handed Trump 61% of its vote in 2024. Today, November 5th, I had the honour of meeting with the new British High Commissioner to Nigeria and his team at the High Commissioner's Residence in Abuja. I congratulated him and the British people on the occasion of the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III. Our discussions covered a wide range of issues, particularly governance, the welfare of Nigerians, and the forthcoming elections. I emphasised that our appeal to the international community is not for support for any particular candidate or political party. It is for something far more fundamental: the protection of the Nigerian people's democratic right to freely choose their leaders through free, fair, transparent and credible elections. Democracy must be about the people, their choices and their future. I therefore encouraged the international community to continue standing with Nigerians, promoting accountability and insisting that the will of the people must prevail. PRESS RELEASE APC'S DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO CONSTRICT DEMOCRATIC SPACE AND MUZZLE OPPOSITION MUST STOP - NDC The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is sad to note that the desperate attempt to constrict the democratic space and muzzle the opposition is on the increase. The NDC has not just been a target of violent attacks by agents of the ruling and ruinous APC, it has become a soft target of discrimination by hoteliers and the hospitality industry in Abuja. On two occasions, Rockview Hotel in Abuja after agreeing to the use of their facilities for our meetings without genuine excuse cancelled the grant in the last minute of negotiation. The first time it happened was when at the last minute they rejected our request to hold our 2nd NEC meeting in June, 2026. Only recently, they refused our utilization of their facilities for a meeting saying it was order from above. Similarly, the BON Hotel, Wuse, Abuja bluntly refused our usage of their facilities for a meeting despite meeting all conditions placed on our path. Also, the recent unveiling of our National Campaign Council (NCC) did not happen without drama from the hospitality industry in Abuja. At the last minute, our host called the party to refund the payment made, saying they were no longer interested in making their facilities available, perhaps based on threats and orders from above. However, our refusal to bulge inevitably compelled them to allow us the usage of the facility we have paid for. This is not democracy. The APC should allow all parties to campaign without let or hindrance, and give Nigerians the opportunity to make their choice on who governs them. In addition, we implore all well meaning Nigerians and lovers of democracy to call out Rockview and BON Hotel for their anti-people and anti-democratic actions. Nigerians deserve better, and NDC is prepared to serve with passion and patriotism. A New Nigeria is POssible! We can do it.
