80% of product teams are releasing products faster thanks to AI, but customers are not seeing value any sooner.🚦
This comes from Atlassian's new State of Product 2027 report, which surveyed 1,000 product professionals in the US, Germany, and France. It also matches what I heard at Team26 Europe this week: the bottleneck has shifted.
Here are three numbers that stood out to me:
🔹 69% say decision making has not become faster, even with AI.
🔹 77% say that executive gut instinct sometimes overrides data-driven product decisions.
🔹 82% report that teammates often pass along low-effort AI work that others need to fix, and about half spend time keeping AI agents on track.
On the positive side, 99% of teams have fully integrated AI into at least one workflow, and 53% now have more time to focus on strategy and roadmap planning.
Here is what I take away for the teams I work with:
1️⃣ Speed is no longer the main challenge. Deciding what to build is now the real issue.
2️⃣ Decisions need clear, accessible evidence. Only 4% can trace every roadmap decision back to customer feedback. When feedback is scattered across tools, it creates a context problem, not an AI problem.
3️⃣ Messy work is a governance issue. Make AI contributions visible by tagging AI-created content and listing agents as contributors, rather than ignoring their involvement.
This third point is where the keynote's multiplayer AI story connects with real-world experience.
Where is the bottleneck in your team right now: shipping, deciding, or reviewing?
