Troy Aikman says his father taught him the value of hard work and believes we live in a time when many young people have lost that work ethic.
Troy Aikman says his father taught him toughness and the value of hard work from an early age.
“If you were a son in the Aikman household, you were going to develop some toughness because of my father. He grew up on a farm in Iowa, worked as a welder and pipeline foreman, and he was tough.”
His father always gave him the same advice about his future.
“He’d ask, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ I always said, ‘I want to be a professional athlete.’ His response was, ‘You can be anything you want as long as you’re willing to pay the price and put in the time and work.’”
“That was instilled in me early. Anything you’re going to get in life, you’ve got to be willing to work for it.”
“We seem to be in a time where it’s lost in a lot of young people but that wasn’t lost in the Aikman house.”
