Take a drive with me through the 1,000-MW, 1,500-acre Meta data center in Lebanon, IN that recently started construction. No buildings completed yet but it has already completely transformed the area.

UPDATE🗞️: IDEM has issued a draft permit for the first batch of backup diesel generators at the Microsoft data center campus under construction in Granger, IN. Comments are due 11/25 (the day before Thanksgiving).
Data centers continue to flood the Indiana Department of Environmental Management with diesel generator permit applications. 🏭 Microsoft just filed applications for 50 backup diesel generators (~142.5 MW) at both its Granger and La Porte data center campuses under construction.

It’s actually insane to say in your IPO filing that if the law applies to you all of your prospective shareholders will suffer.
Replying to @matthewstoller
The most important risk factor for Anthropic is the rule of law actually being applied. "Any determination that we are liable under such theories, or any judicial or regulatory expansion of tort, product liability, or consumer protection law, or criminal liability, as applied to AI models, could result in significant liability and require us to change how we design and offer our models, platform, and applications."

Purdue is creating some of the more evil things you have ever seen, and some of them aren't even being drafted by the Pacers
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks. By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time. Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

Another reason why a data center moratorium is needed now! ⤵️
In the rush to build data centers, companies are starting to use their own off grid gas generators. This results in much higher emissions – 60% to 80% – compared with using their local electricity grid and risks locking in longer-term fossil dependence.

With the BlackRock acquisition of AES, here is who will own Indianapolis's electric utility. Why are we letting private equity, California, Quebec, and Qatar control and profit off of this essential service in Indy? Shouldn't Hoosiers own & control our public utilities?

The 1-MW nuclear microreactor planned for Crane in Indiana has no operating license, only a short 20-year lifespan, is undergoing a rushed safety review, has no total price tag, and even the rosiest projections show super-expensive electricity costs. The epitome of stupidity.

We gave the Times the chance to do the right thing yesterday. Instead, they’re going with an argument that basically boils down to: *We randomly produced our first ever plume model about the exact same incident that Hunterbrook exposed with a plume model *We randomly took a lead photo of the exact same home on the exact same street *We randomly interviewed the same expert Etc. They wrote a great story. Obviously, we care about the subject deeply. It’s just a huge bummer for our team and the reporters who worked relentlessly on these stories.
Breaking: Several sections of @NYTimes front page story today mirror two earlier Hunterbrook investigations — without attribution.  Images. Methods. Sources. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

If the Pentagon really believes that untested #nuclear reactors of unknown reliability and safety are going to save us from disaster, we are indeed all doomed. To the contrary, those reactors will be a magnet for attacks that could render military installations unusable.

Never seen a more flagrant and violent breach of privacy in my life, and probably never will. Doubtful that a privacy violation will ever even be able to compare to the scale of this evil and deliberate attack. Samsung should be eviscerated for this. Criminal charges please
turns out it classifies what audio it hears, before reporting back to samsung. sensor preferences, dog-barking and baby-crying event counters, and camera streaming duration are built into telemetry paths.

We finally have an explanation for “Facebook is listening to me through my phone”. They’d never do that (and it’s not really possible). Turns out literally everyone else was — and then selling that to ad data brokers.
WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.

The thing about Google clearing a forest in Finland without permits is that they decided that whatever fine they might face is worth it. It doesn’t cost them as much as not getting the land cleared. Because like ALL things, if the punishment is a fine, it isn’t really illegal for rich people.

Let me get this straight. A guy keeps getting weirdly targeted ads on his new Samsung TV. So he breaks into his own TV to find out why. 1.2M people watch. 42 hours later, OpenAI deactivates his account. Reason: "Cyber Abuse." His words: "i have never used openai to exploit or find vulnerabilities, only local reverse engineering" Same week, people on r/claude say Claude now cuts off reverse-engineering write-ups MID-SENTENCE: "A safety check stopped my response partway through creating the playbook" The TV is fine. The guy who opened it is the problem.
banned for reverse engineering work? that’s wild oh well, -$500, and a bunch of banked resets) but gained motivation to get 3 more machines and finish my cluster. i have never used openai to exploit or find vulnerabilities, only local reverse engineering which tripped daybreak.

NEW POLL: More than 3 in 4 voters (76%) would support a new transmission line in their community to connect more clean energy to the grid. In contrast, voters are 40 points less supportive of building transmission lines to connect more AI data centers.

The Organization of MISO States, comprised of utility commissions in MISO, has put out a Position Statement saying that data centers should be directly assigned ALL of the incremental transmission upgrade costs they cause, PLUS their full embedded costs. Good stuff! 👀
The Ratepayer Protection Pledge signed by Meta, Google, and Amazon promises their data centers will pay for transmission infrastructure, including network upgrades. But *none* of these companies are actually paying these costs. And I have the receipts.🧵

🏗️Indiana regulators have issued a draft permit allowing Amazon to expand its fleet of backup diesel generators by more than 400 at its New Carlisle data center campus. Comments are due November 18. The lack of environmental protection in our state is failing Hoosiers.
🚨SHOCKING🚨: Amazon proposes an extra 414 backup diesel generators at its New Carlisle, IN data center complex. This brings the total for Project Rainier to 909 backup diesel generators totaling >2,400 MW. It will store more than 6.1 million gallons of diesel fuel onsite.🤯
