Thoughts on 9/11 from an emergency doc.
So many others are speaking about the shock and tragedy of that day, the horrific loss of life, the heartbroken families. I won't repeat what has been said better elsewhere.
Below is a treasured item from that tragic time - a signature board from emergency physicians, nurses, and staff in appreciation of first responders. It sat in the ER at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and now in the Mount Sinai emergency medicine offices. It is a reminder that there is a special bond between police, firefighters, EMS and emergency room providers. We are truly all in it together, and we treasure our teamwork, even when performed under gruesome and challenging conditions.
On behalf of Mount Sinai Emergency Medicine, I wanted to voice our deep gratitude, respect and, yes, fierce loyalty to our first responders who answer the call, all day, every day, at uncertain risk to themselves. Our missions are intertwined, and we are here for you.
