Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences is a leader in microbial oceanography with research spanning from our home in Maine to the Arctic to the deep ocean crust.
This October, SRS Doug Rasher traveled to Québec for a Northwest Atlantic kelp workshop. It assembled an international group of researchers studying kelp forests ranging from southern New England north to Labrador, allowing the group to better understand the bigger picture. #kelp
On Oct. 27, @BigelowLab and colleagues from @World_Wildlife and @ColbyCollege hosted a delegation of South Korean seaweed farming experts. Working with partners as well as our local and federal delegations, we are proud to bolster Maine’s working waterfronts and blue economy.
Glow Tow: Earlier this month, #BigelowLab ’s Sea Change Semester students spent five days on Allen Island. While there, they participated in coding labs, a marine debris survey, proposal workshops, and nighttime net tows. 📸: Aislyn Keyes
From October 12-15, #BigelowLab participated in the ABO's 2026 #Algae Biomass Summit in Tempe, Arizona. Team members including Manoj Kamalanathan, Kristin Heidenreich, Sarah Meyers, and Mike Lomas, greeted attendees at the laboratory’s exhibit table. #ABS2026#blueeconomy
💙 Portable Plankton: In this month’s edition of the Community Round-up, we are delighted to shine a spotlight on a fellow Bigelowian: our dedicated Education Coordinator Evan Henerberry! Check out #BigelowLab's Community Round-up for more details: currents.bigelow.org/?p=2475#maine
From Spain to Maine: For five months, visiting student Reyes Martín Rodríguez studied in SRS Karen Stamieszkin’s lab at @BigelowLab exploring zooplankton feeding strategies as part of a long-term research project. bigelow.org/news/articles/20…
This week, the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP) announced #BigelowLab as the network’s newest member. We're excited to collaborate with more than 50 GOAP members already working to advance ocean accounting worldwide! FMI: oceanaccounts.org/insights/b…
