Václav Havel believed that truth was better than fear, freedom was worth fighting for, and Europe’s future belonged to everyone. He devoted his life to those convictions and helped change the course of history. On what would have been his 90th birthday, I’m remembering my friend with gratitude for his courage, his love of our common humanity, and the work we did together to bring the Czech Republic into NATO and build a Europe no longer divided. We also shared a love of music. So today, I’m playing a few notes in his honor. Happy birthday, my friend. The world could use more of your spirit.

We’ve spent decades working to lower the price of HIV medicines and expand access to prevention and treatment. Country ownership is the goal. But a deadline isn't a transition plan. Cheaper medicines mean nothing if they never reach people. What kind of country are we if we knowingly allow treatment to be interrupted, prevention to stop, and people to be left to die? We should be building for the possibility of tomorrow. Destroying decades of hard work to score political points carries a cost measured in human lives. And no perceived, short-term political victory is worth that. washingtonpost.com/world/202…

There’s enormous promise in AI — but getting it right means asking hard questions about the risks, too. I’m glad Hillary and Reid had this conversation at #CGI2026.
We're used to thinking of open-source models as an unadulterated good. But in the case of AI, they can actually pose additional dangers, as @ReidHoffman and I got into at #CGI2026. I appreciated this nuanced discussion.

Science has always been part of America’s promise. Bill Nye reminds us why we have to keep investing in discovery — and in the people working every day to improve our lives.
Science is in the Constitution. 🔬 @BillNye on why investing in scientific research matters — and why he believes protecting it starts at the ballot box. Watch more: clintonglobal.org/2026 | #CGI2026 📷 @LSSmedia

I learned a lot from these three remarkable young leaders at #CGI2026 — including that you never leave the stage without taking a selfie. The future looks bright.

30 years ago today, I signed the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. In the three decades since, the world has seen only 10 nuclear tests, compared with more than 2,000 in the five decades before. As AI gives us new capabilities we could only have imagined then, we should remember something we learned in the nuclear age: even when countries disagree, we can still work together to reduce the risks we all face. cfr.org/articles/bill-clinto…

This year’s Clinton Global Citizen Awards honored three organizations saving lives every day — and representing the thousands of frontline responders doing this essential work in communities around the world: Superhumans Center, Aaron E. Henry Community Health Services Center, and Mutual Aid in Sudan. If you’re able to help them continue doing it, please consider supporting them today: clintonglobal.org/citizen

For 20 years, @Unitaid and @CHAI_health have worked to lower prices, expand supply, and get lifesaving medicines and tests to people faster. I’m grateful for all we’ve achieved and eager to keep going. As we pursue the next generation of breakthroughs, access must remain the measure of our success.

Dolly Parton was one of a kind—a great songwriter and performer who told the stories of everyday Americans with honesty, humility, and heart. She rose high from her East Tennessee roots and never forgot where she came from. And she always believed in giving back, especially in her efforts to promote literacy. Hillary and I were big fans and first saw her in 1974, and will always be grateful for the music and the memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her legion of fans, and everyone who loved her.

Tim Carney was a dedicated diplomat who served his country over seven administrations and in some of the most troubled places in the world. I counted on him as ambassador in both Sudan and in Haiti, and was grateful that he helped lead the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund after the 2010 earthquake. No matter how unstable the political environment and how tense relations could be, Tim always maintained the highest level of professionalism and tenacity, and always believed that diplomacy was the essential key to reducing instability and promoting peace and prosperity. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his many admirers at home and abroad.

Happy 80th birthday to my friend George W. Bush! Your friendship—and that of your father and your entire family—has been one of the great gifts of my life. It has always reminded me that long before we’re politicians, we’re fellow Americans and, above all, human beings. And for the next month, I’m especially grateful to finally have someone older than me! Wishing you many more years of good health, happiness, and friendship. Our country is stronger when we remember that what unites us is greater than what divides us.

America has become the longest-lasting democracy in history in large part thanks to generations of immigrants who have brought their talents, hard work, and dreams to our country. I was honored to welcome Pedro, who will help us write the next chapter of our American story.

Clive Davis had a golden ear, a brilliant mind, and a good heart. I’ll always be grateful for his kindness through the years. His legacy will live on through all the artists and music he helped bring to the world, which have been the soundtrack to millions of lives.
