During International Infection Prevention Week, we’re reflecting on the progress made through PPE, hand hygiene, and stronger public health systems, as well as the opportunities ahead. Clean water systems transformed public health. How can we build on that progress by bringing the same attention to the air we share? As a member of the @flucoalition, we contributed to its fourth annual After Action Report on the 2025-2026 flu season. In it, we emphasized the importance of pathogen-agnostic preparedness tools, like PPE, that could help reduce the impact of a flu pandemic in its early stages. We’re proud to have signed on to @BSPH_CHS's letter urging Congress to reauthorize the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA). For nearly 20 years, this legislation has helped build the foundation for our nation’s preparedness and response efforts, including efforts to respond to emerging biological threats. Failure to reauthorize this important legislation could allow certain authorities to lapse and create uncertainty around funding and coordination for critical preparedness programs. For nearly two decades, PAHPA has helped shape how the U.S. prepares for and responds to public health emergencies. That readiness depends on building critical capabilities in advance, including strong stockpiles, resilient supply chains, and reliable protection for critical workers.
