The Mystery of Iyake Lake
Most people believe the mystery of Iyake Lake is how deep it is. But the elders say the lake carries something deeper than water. It carries the sorrow of a woman.
Long ago, a woman came from Ota and settled in the quiet town of Ado-Awaye. She was kind, gentle, but she carried one deep sorrow. She could not have children.
People whispered. Some mocked her openly. Until one evening, she climbed the ancient path of Okeado Mountain.
When she reached the top, the lake was waiting, still, silent. The elders say the mountain heard her crying, and that night, the lake took her. And from that day, the lake was called Iyake, the cry of a woman.
And even today, the lake still sits quietly on top of Okeado Mountain, beautiful, peaceful, and full of secrets, because some believe the mountain still remembers her cry.
