Australia, Canada and the UK are close friends and trusted partners, with much to gain from working together.
Together with @Ed_Miliband and @AnitaAnandMP, we spoke about how our countries can deepen cooperation on security, economic resilience and the global challenges we face.

🟢 Same Head of State
🟢 Same Westminster-style parliaments
🟢 Same majority language
🟢 Shared historical ties
🟢 Common culture
Just some of the similarities that the CANZUK countries share more than any other nations on earth.
It's time for a CANZUK alliance 🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿🇬🇧
"Ultimately, CANZUK has the trust premium the EU could never offer Ottawa. Plus, it’s far easier to coordinate four states of 150 million people than 27 states of 450 million." 🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿🇬🇧

Canada exports more to the UK than to the EU
Canada should be striving for #CANZUK - closer ties btw Canada, Australia, NZ & UK
Cooperating on defence, trade, movement of workers etc
4 lands with a shared heritage, culture, monarchy, institutions, laws, beliefs, etc
🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿🇬🇧
Canada already has a trade deal with the EU (CETA) but in 2025, the UK alone bought more more goods from Canada (6.4% of Canadian exports) than the whole EU (5.5%).
The UK's imports from Canada increased by 154% since 2021 using CETA and now we are both members of the CPTPP.
Meanwhile the US alone bought 73% of all Canadian exports in 2025.
Canada's second largest export market was the UK, then China, then Japan.
But Carney wants to become an EU "associate" member.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The EU doesn’t even use the trade agreement they already have with Canada, (which took 7 years to negotiate.) 🙄
Carney’s ‘meaningless’ EU offer unravels

Have I got a group for you!
Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK already share compatible cultures and very similar institutions. That makes C-A-NZ-UK coordination costs structurally lower than for any other group of democracies.
The commercial case is simple: lower the barriers and businesses grow across all four — while each country keeps its own parliamentary sovereignty.
We can act commercially like one economy and still promote free trade with other democracies (including the US if they don’t tariff us) and with others where it makes sense.
Grow the economies together. Keep the politics and sovereignty separate.
It works because we are fundamentally more alike than we are with even our closest friends outside #CANZUK.
Fantastic piece by Lord @DanielJHannan, one of Britain’s leading conservative thinkers.
The true ‘special relationship’ is between Britain and Canada
“Canada, a country which truly does share our values, is being subjected to an effective blockade. This is not about trade, but about pique at the nation’s polite rejection of Trump’s demand that it become his 51st state.
“We can be in no doubt as to whom we back. It is not just that Canada is the wronged party, nor that the US is tearing up a trade deal which Trump himself negotiated and described as “the fairest, most balanced and beneficial deal we have ever signed into law.
“No, it is that Canada, not the US, is the country that shares (Britain’s) values.”
Excellent article by our former President. We need #CANZUK. It will magnify the diplomatic, economic and military strength of the four realms.
We are the closest countries in the world (in all but geography). In the face of China, Russia and an unstable US, we need CANZUK now.
High Commissioner Hamish Cooper was pleased to meet Baroness Winterton following her attendance at the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Palau. 🇬🇧🇳🇿🌏
Delighted to meet with Baroness Winterton, the UK’s new Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State responsible for the Indo-Pacific.
Our countries’ prosperity, security & resilience depend on a peaceful Indo-Pacific.
Look forward to working closely together. @FCDOGovUK
The world is changing, and nations are no longer acting alone but in alliances to advance their mutual economic agendas.
Canada, Australia, New Zealand & the UK must now seize the opportunity to work together, and be a collective force for security and prosperity. 🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿🇬🇧
