Mike Smith ferried fuel to and from here in order to fly his tiny experimental amphibian from the US to Japan bypassing Russia, which had refused him permission to land. Iirc 22 hours vfr at night over the ocean.

The Coast Guard ran a LORAN station on Attu from 1943. On 27 August 2010 its last 20 crew left, and the island was empty. With no one to keep the runway, it's now a boat from Adak. Birders have made the trip for Asian species rarely seen elsewhere in North America. /END

They're glue because their utility is in making their colleagues feel good for reasons unrelated to their actual job performance.

It's just @AlexHonnold in a suit.
Imagine sitting on top of a mountain, thinking you are safe, and a massive grizzly casually runs up it. I can't believe how athletic these bears are. If you are on the menu, nothing will stop it. A couple years ago there was a hiker in Waterton Park that tried to out climb a grizzly who just kept climbing up to him. He had to get rescued off.

Yep but if you saw it falling at the same (angular) speed you'd be about 10x further away.

We can easily self-finance growth beyond some near term inflection point, but we may choose to finance construction to increase growth rate.
Terraform will be able to self-finance for a long time, after which they have to bring dollars forward 1-3 years - which is much cheaper than bringing dollars forward by 25 years! I had Claude extract Casey’s revenue and margin roadmap values from this site: roadmap.terraformindustries.… Notice that gross profit outpaces solar array buildout cost (not taking Terraformer production into account yet, I’m a busy guy) until ~2033. After that point, solar array buildout cost leads gross profit by 1-3 years. The limit to self-funded growth is how much solar array buildout can be self funded through gross profit. So, a slight lower rate of expansion than Casey modelled would mean that Terraform never requires outside funding for expansion! What a beautiful business.

I've seen some comments that compare the video of the plane crash to rods from the gods. The rods go about 10 times faster so to see that same relative closing speed you'd be 10 times further away. They'd be much harder to see. The kinetic energy would be roughly 100 times higher. But the square-cube law means that the resulting explosion would be about half the apparent size.

I subscribe to the theory that the Minoans on Thera had running hot and cold water.
Genghis Khan and Julius Caeser never experienced a hot shower.

There is a way to compete but first they have to decide they want to not lose.
The other supercompute projects are unable to reach their goals, but SpaceX is already achieving ours
