Staking has no place in gaming. You should earn by mastering the game, not by having a bigger wallet. 💀
Let's talk about what we're actually rewarding.
You can spend 500 hours mastering a game, grinding gear, learning matchups and getting better.
Or you can buy a token, stake it and earn rewards because you have money.
Guess which one Web3 keeps incentivising?
1. Staking rewards wealth, not skill.
Someone with money can earn without even playing. Meanwhile, someone grinding every day can put in hundreds of hours and have nothing to show for it financially.
Are we building games or financial products?
2. It takes the focus away from the game.
Instead of asking how to make the game better, teams start looking for ways to make the token more attractive.
The game ends up serving the token instead of the other way around.
3. You're attracting the wrong audience.
If people can make money by staking, why would they care about mastering the game?
You attract people chasing yields, not necessarily people who actually want to play.
And when the rewards dry up, how many of them are sticking around?
4. What about the players actually putting in the work?
Winning tournaments. Learning mechanics. Crafting rare items. Completing difficult challenges.
That's what gaming is about.
Why should someone with a bigger wallet have an advantage over someone who's actually putting in the hours?
5. This is why I get turned off by Web3 games.
I'm a gamer. I want to compete, improve, master the game and earn because I'm actually good at it.
If anyone is making money from a game, the top players and creators should be at the front of that queue.
Reward the people who master the game. Reward the people who bring players and build the community.
You can't attract gamers by rewarding wallets and then act surprised when all you attract is capital chasing returns.
Gameplay -> Economy -> Tokenomics.
Get your priorities straight.
