The book is based on Lee's lectures delivered as part of the Julian J. Rothbaum Distinguished Lecture series at the University of Oklahoma, sponsored by the @CarlAlbertCtr. More great books on the value of representative democracy in the series here: oupress.com/search-resul...
Americans of all political persuasions hate Congress. I nominate Frances Lee's "A Case for Congress" (@OUPress) as a hopeful read for America's 250th. The book added nuance to my own thinking; Lee shows where Congress does serve, even if imperfectly, as the Founders intended.

Come for the incredible Francis Chung photos of @TomColeOK04's Approps lair. Stay for the praiseful quotes from the likes of Chip Roy and Scott Perry illustrating how the gentleman from Oklahoma pulled off an 11-bill miracle. @JAscholtes @ktullymcmanus politico.com/news/2026/02/09…

We hope everyone enjoyed our 22nd Rothbaum Lecture Series in Representative Government. Our speaker this year was Professor Maggie Blackhawk from NYU Law. Her talk was titled "Colonial Administration: Empire, Civilization, and the Making of Political Science"

After reflecting on the lectures, I think political science departments need to return to their roots and rethink how to define governments that do not fit easily into our current categorizations.
