Young women, who are trying to make the best of an often devastating chronic illness, are turning to social media to express what it is like to live the way they do, in order to create a truly accurate image of life with chronic illness that makes the public aware of what their lives are truly like. fixed the title 😉
The coolest part of disability is how my friends all abandoned me or, if they stuck around, couldn’t stop saying offensive things about my body!

Using the excuse of its an opinion piece doesn't change underlying inaccuracies or misrepresentation You could write an opinion which doesn't rely on misleading or wrong information and doesn't leave public opinion more ignorant+skewed It's deliberate choice & harms all of us

Does anyone else see the asymmetrical narratives Burchill deploys in her piece below? Vine is given humanising narrative space, while disabled people are mostly given compressed, generalised & adversarial space— discussed more than listened to. #BlockedByVine #DisabilityRights
Replying to @MotetJourneys
If anyone would like to compare my thread to Burchill's piece, here it is in its entirety, in the following screencaps: #IstandWithMike #BlockedByVine

Then your opinion is demonstrably incorrect. Taxpayers do not fund “a quarter of their compatriots to take their ease” The @theipaper can't be very good at fact-checking. It's very easy to find. gov.uk/government/statistics…

What about when your opinion isn't based on facts?
Also false. Julie Burchill says taxpayers fund “a quarter of their compatriots to take their ease”. 25% is disability prevalence, not welfare inactivity. It includes children, pensioners and millions in work. 5.5m disabled people were employed Apr-Jun 2025 gov.uk/government/statistics…

I've read it— Burchill begins with a preferred conclusion: [that] Vine is fundamentally fair & any critic is unreasonable - then selects character details, anecdotes & loaded descriptions which reinforce it. #BlockedByVine It's bias & internalised stigma is fully evident!
So the I-paper have now paid Julie Burchill to write a hit piece over the Jeremy Vine episode. I’m not going to share the article as I refuse to give it any oxygen, but it seems I’m pissing off all the right people. They can write all the hit pieces they want, but I’m not going to let it distract me from speaking the truth and I think we should all let it fizzle out.

In light of recent claims made about me in private messages from Jeremy Vine, and given the public nature of the issues involved, I am releasing the relevant correspondence for transparency. I challenged the decision to appoint Mr Vine as host of the Carers UK Awards because of longstanding concerns about how disabled people, chronically ill people, and unpaid carers are portrayed on his programme. The petition that followed was not created or organised by me; it was initiated independently by another X user. I do not condone abuse, harassment, or threats directed at anyone, and I reject any attempt to hold me responsible for the behaviour of others online. The messages I received raise matters of public interest relating to charity governance, media influence, and accountability. Publishing them ensures the record is accurate and allows the public to understand the context in which these claims were made. My intention is not to cause distress, but to correct the record and uphold the right of our communities to challenge narratives that affect us.
