🏀 COWLEY COLLEGE — TEAM OVERVIEW Cowley College enters the season with an intriguing combination of returning experience, athleticism, positional size and offensive versatility. With several key players returning, the Tigers should benefit from established chemistry, familiarity and continuity, giving them an opportunity to build on last season. Marcus Smith brings dynamic athleticism, shot creation and the ability to attack the paint. LJ Britt provides perimeter shooting, court vision and drive-and-kick playmaking, while Chase Robinson adds positional size and efficient finishing. Andrell Burton Jr. brings Division I experience, length and downhill attacking ability. Xavier Vickerstaff provides perimeter shooting at 6’6”, giving Cowley another floor-spacing option.

Aggressive attacking the basket, using his length to extend around defenders and finish at the rim. A former Kansas Class 6A First Team All-State selection, Burton Jr. originally signed with Drake University before spending last season at South Dakota State. Cowley County Community College head basketball coach Donnie Jackson believes the foundation of a successful program starts with competing at a high level, playing unselfishly and understanding what it means to be a team. For Jackson, it’s about establishing a reputation that opponents recognize before they even step on the floor. He wants the Tigers to be known for their relentless effort, willingness to play for one another and commitment to doing things the right way. “I want people to say, man, they’re an unselfish team. They play like a real team.” That mentality carries over to both ends of the court. Jackson emphasizes that when players buy into a collective approach, defend with purpose and compete on every possession, they give themselves an opportunity to be successful against anyone.

Cowley County Community College head coach Donnie Jackson has a clear vision for the Tigers heading into the new season: play fast, defend and compete for all 40 minutes. With a long, athletic roster and experienced returners who have already bought into the program’s expectations, Jackson wants Cowley pushing the tempo without sacrificing discipline or structure. “We really like to have pace and play fast, but within structure and discipline.” For Jackson, developing depth will be a major priority as the Tigers look to sustain their intensity throughout games. The goal is to build a group that can consistently defend, compete and execute the style of basketball Cowley wants to play. “I think our identity is going to be somebody that defends and competes the entire game.”
