UEFA rightly demanded that FIFA answer a long list of questions related to multiple recent scandals. Great. There should be an independent investigation. At the same time though, UEFA has a range of outstanding issues, including the improper alteration of its own term limits that weakens football’s already anaemic anti-corruption safeguards, as well as on serious breaches and anti-discrimination by members, and gender equality. On which it is particularly abysmal. To demand rules be applied, it helps to apply them yourself. No double standards. Football needs strong and consistent leadership with the integrity and authority to hold the game to account. Sadly, that’s few and far between.

‘More than half of FIFA’s member associations receive millions of dollars a year from football’s global governing body despite appearing to fail to meet its basic transparency requirements for doing so. A wide-ranging investigation by The Athletic has found that over 60 per cent of countries receive huge sums in development funds, yet do not adhere to the rules set by FIFA’s own statutes.’ That’s how it was built. The dispensing of FIFA funds needs independent oversight, measurement based on need, and transparency. nytimes.com/athletic/7671672…

‘Expenses and reimbursements.’
FIFA & FIFA PRESIDENT RECEIVES APOLOGY FROM ‘THE TIMES’ FIFA takes note of an apology published today by The Times following an inaccurate and damaging report: On 13 October 2026 (Sport), we reported that Gianni Infantino received a "second salary" from Fifa, which Fifa had failed to disclose. This is incorrect. There was no “second salary.” Regulations do not require Fifa to include expenses and reimbursements received by Mr Infantino in its annual report as they are not considered "compensation" under Swiss reporting requirements. We also accept Mr Infantino did not purchase a property in Miami at a suspected undervalue as we reported and neither he nor his family are the legal or beneficial owners of Shadi LLC and have no control over that company, as we suggested. We are happy to make these corrections and apologise to Mr Infantino and Fifa for the errors. As FIFA stated in August, it is evident that there is a concerted and ongoing effort by some to undermine FIFA and its President. FIFA urges the media to act responsibly and carefully verify all sourcing to prevent the publication and subsequent reproduction of false and defamatory information. FIFA welcomes legitimate scrutiny. But scrutiny is not a license to amplify false allegations. Where reporting is inaccurate, misleading, or totally false, as in this case, FIFA will continue to challenge it directly and vigorously.

In 2016, the funding of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour's 482ft superyacht, the Topaz, saw him named as one of the "co-conspirators" in a $4.5 billion scandal a U.S. judge called “one of the biggest financial crimes in the history of the world”. In the international fallout, IPIC, the $70 billion sovereign wealth fund Mansour operated, was wound up, and a claim made in court that “the sheikh would not get out of bed for less than $100m” caused intense embarrassment. Now, a decade on from what would become known as the 1MDB scandal, Mansour faces another reckoning. 📝 @jwhitey98 🔗 nyti.ms/4it5O3t

The human rights movement doesn’t pick and choose who has rights. We won’t refrain from calling for justice, whether the suspected perpetrator sits in Tehran, Washington D.C., or anywhere else. Secretary Rubio knows that. So when he calls a human rights organization a fraud for doing its job, that’s just his playbook for avoiding accountability. Read more: bit.ly/4802bfe

Awful, awful news. Helen Haines is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. While this appears to be politically motivated violence, it is another attack on a woman in Australia, after more than 55 killings already this year through gender-based violence according to Australian Femicide Watch. That this is even a thing, requiring organisations to monitor the escalating trend, should be enough to mobilise major action. The level of misogyny, apparent hatred and violence against girls and women of all backgrounds is a national crisis, and should be confronted in that way. We need the political will to take meaningful action. Women’s rights groups point to a chronic inadequacy of funding, major gaps in services for women at risk and inadequate laws that fail to reflect the dangers and coercive behaviours women face in Australia today. Culture will only change when actions, policy and funding demonstrate the seriousness with which we take the issue of girl’s and women’s safety. Lots of love to Helen and family ❤️

‘Alienate smaller states’? The whole patronage system and buying of votes by a sitting President is an abysmal waste of the game’s funds, leads to all manner of historically corrupt practices where that money lands, and continually impedes any sort of democratic reform process. Even in the face of the game being flogged off to private equity investors close to a President. Hidden contracts. Scandal after scandal. It’s inherently corrupt. Wenger sat quiet while the World Cup was tainted by the Balogun red card fiasco. It needs someone with a record of governance reform and commitment to accountability. Infantino is able to use FIFA funds to ensure that’s not possible.
Chances of a serious challenger to Gianni Infantino emerging before November deadline look slim when a reform plan would only alienate smaller member states thetimes.com/sport/football/…

On FIFA's own definition we have been in the electoral period for five and a half months, and the Regulations require that campaigns be carried out "in a fair and reputable manner". Reputable? You’re kidding. What the Regulations do not contain is a rule that a candidate who is also the President may not propose, in that electoral period, a payment to every voter that elects him. Which is the point. The rule that would protect the electorate from the incumbent was never written into them. Here’s what to know, and what fans and players can do. article27craigfoster.substac…

I’ve been to the world’s largest refugee camp, Cox’s Bazar twice in recent years. Seeing over 1.2 million people caged, and the chronic anxiety and extreme health impacts on women, children most of all, carries a responsibility to say, and do something. I always ask the simple question: What would I do? What would I want for my kids? And a cage ain’t it. Some thoughts after our visit to Australian Parliament several days ago. On injustice, rules, what justice at the ICJ looks like, and what to do about it. article27craigfoster.substac…
