Oh baby, I just found a juicy filter cap oozing it's special fish sauce all over the power board on this Commodore 1702 CRT. The crazy part is that the CRT was working with this problem.

If there is one thing I hate is to be told that a game has stopped working after a new core is published or after a wide update is presented. To catch those problems early I finally have a FPGA-based system that will test all games and catch regressions.

Monster maulers sent from an arcade projects forum member. Maskrom 32Y and 29Y tested bad in the board. I verified on a programmer and they tested good, burnt some replacements and same deal on the pcb. Anyways I checked all connections and they checked out.

Well both of the Belgium CPS3 boards I repaired last night were filthy. Had dust and flux from the first tech and then flux from me. Nothing a good scrub with 99 percent IPA. Then a bath and scrub with hot water and deox it. Then compressed air and hot air station.

Off course after the dry we hit that sound pot with deox it and worked it and a bit of conformal coating on exposed copper trace.
