It’s Hot take Tuesday: identity alone doesn’t make you anti-racist. Inner work does. Racism shaped the world around us, and it also shaped how many of us were taught to see ourselves. Unlearning that takes honesty, community and education, and it’s the reason we teach Black history: so no one has to figure it out alone. Let’s keep learning, together. ✊🏾 #TheBlackCurriculum #BlackHistory #BlackEducation #Unlearning #Deprogramming #AntiRacism #RepresentationMatters

Music is never just entertainment. 🎤✊🏿 For years, one police form decided whether Black and Asian artists got to take the stage at all. Form 696 was a Met Police risk assessment introduced in 2005. Promoters had to hand over detailed paperwork two weeks before a show, and until 2009 that included the main ethnicity of the crowd and the genre being played. The result? Grime nights and other events were shut down at the last minute, with vague "safety concerns" given as the reason. The form was scrapped in 2017, but its legacy lingers. The recent REMEL report from Black Lives in Music shows Black and Asian music communities still face disproportionate barriers, including cancelled events. Grime was built on a DIY spirit, giving young Black Britons the space to create, experiment and tell their own stories on their own terms. A culture like that deserves to be championed, not policed. If we celebrate Black British music's influence on our culture, we have to acknowledge the unfair hurdles still faced by the artists, promoters and communities behind it. Swipe through to learn more 👉🏿 and share to keep the conversation going. #Form696 #BHMIs365 #TBH365 #BlackBritishMusic #BlackCurriculum

This #MondayMotivation, we celebrate Dr Emma Dabiri, an Irish-Nigerian author, academic and broadcaster who shows that knowing who you are is a form of power. ✨ Growing up Black in Ireland, Emma knew what it was to be made to feel like an outsider. Instead of shrinking, she turned that experience into a body of work that explores Black history, culture and identity. Through Don’t Touch My Hair, she uses the story of Black hair to reveal centuries of erasure, resistance and creativity, and to remind us that something as personal as our hair carries a much bigger history. Her work also challenges us to go further. Talking about pain is not the same as dismantling the systems that cause it, and real change asks for understanding, action and commitment. 🌿 As we begin a new week, may her words inspire us to embrace every part of who we are, question what we’ve been taught, and turn awareness into action. #TBH365 #EmmaDabiri #BlackBritishHistory #BlackExcellence #Inspiration

Some of the best learning happens outside the classroom. 🌍📚 We took the conversation to the streets, because the best answers come from the people who live it. ☀️🎤 This answer showed how much wisdom is already out there. 💭💛 #TheBlackCurriculum #CommunityVoices #BlackHistory #TBH365

October was special. 🧡✨ To everyone who came to our very first event and stayed until the very end: thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🥹 It truly wouldn’t have been possible without every single one of you showing up, and we felt your energy, your laughter, and your support in that room. 🙌 Events are great, but what we’re really here to build is a community: a space where people feel seen, welcome, and part of something bigger. 🤝 You gave us that this month, and we’ll carry it with us always. 💛 Every conversation, every smile, and every moment you shared made this night what it was. 📸 This is only the beginning, so stay glued to our socials for what’s coming next. 👀🔥 You won’t want to miss it!

This #FunFactFriday, we’re celebrating Wangari Maathai, the woman who turned planting trees into a movement for change. 🌳💚 In 1977, she founded the Green Belt Movement, empowering women across Kenya to plant millions of trees, protect the environment, and strengthen their communities. She went on to become the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, proving that lasting change can start with a single seed. What small action do you think can make a big difference? Tired of Black history only being recognised in October. 😒 Black history is not limited to one month. It is part of our history all year round, and it deserves to be taught, celebrated and remembered beyond Black History Month. From the people who shaped science and culture to the activists who fought for justice, these stories deserve to be heard all year, not just in October. Let’s keep learning, sharing and celebrating. #TheBlackCurriculum #BlackHistory #BlackHistoryMonth #TBH365 #BlackBritishHistory

They called it “subnormal.” Now we’re told to wait. ⏳✊🏿 Decades ago, Black Caribbean children across Britain were pushed out of mainstream classrooms and into separate schools, branded with a label that had nothing to do with what they actually needed. Bernard Coard sounded the alarm in 1971, and the paper trail is still there for anyone who wants to look. Fast forward to now and the pattern has flipped but the root hasn’t changed. Labels are handed out quickly when they serve to control us, and held back when they could actually help us. Too many Black people spend years being misread as “difficult” or “disruptive” before anyone considers autism, ADHD or dyslexia. Some never get the answer at all. Swipe through for the history, the present-day reality, and a challenge closer to home. 👉🏿 Because change isn’t only about institutions. Our own communities have conversations to start too: around stigma, around support, around making room for every kind of Black mind. Real advocacy can’t be selective. As we wrap up Black History Month, let’s learn the story, share it, and make sure the next generation is met with understanding instead of suspicion. 🖤💛 🔁 Share with someone who needs to see this. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackNeurodivergence #BernardCoard #ESNSchools #TheBlackCurriculum #AutismAwareness

Thank you for an amazing close to the series! 💛 Monday’s final Community Lecture at Prince of Peckham was the perfect way to end the month. Thank you to everyone who came out to think about Black British identity, culture and what it means to be in community, from elderhood to how we build more nurturing paths from adolescence into adulthood. A huge thank you to Annabelle Woghiren for such a thoughtful and powerful talk, and to everyone who joined the discussion, shared their experiences and stayed to connect afterwards. To all of you who came to one lecture or all four: thank you for showing up for each other. This is only the beginning. 🌍✊🏾 #TheBlackCurriculum #CommunityLectureSeries #BHM #BlackHistoryMonth #HonouringOurCommunities #PeckhamLondon

Representation is the starting line, not the finish line. 🏁 Believing in something is easy. Showing up for it is where it gets uncomfortable, and that’s exactly where the change happens. It can be small, too: the book you recommend, the business you support, the person you hire, the room where you speak up when it would be easier to stay quiet. So here’s your challenge: what’s one thing you’ve done lately to back up what you say you believe? Tell us below 👇🏾 and tag someone who’s doing the work. 💛 #TBH365 #HotTake #BHM #TheBlackCurriculum #BlackHistory #BlackEducation #RepresentationMatters

This #MondayMotivation, we celebrate Wangari Maathai, a woman who understood that the smallest actions can spark the greatest change. 🌿 While many saw challenges, she saw possibilities. Through her work restoring the environment and empowering communities, she showed that growth begins when we nurture what matters and remain committed to a vision bigger than ourselves. Her story is a reminder that transformation doesn't happen overnight. It is built through persistence, purpose, and the courage to keep planting seeds, even when the results aren't yet visible. As we begin a new week, may her legacy inspire us to invest in the future, believe in our ability to make an impact, and leave every space better than we found it. ✨ #TBH365 #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM #WangariMaathai #BlackExcellence #Inspiration

Ever noticed how our stories get retold, repackaged and “rediscovered” like they’re brand new? 🖤 The conversation around Black British identity is having a moment right now, but let’s be clear: it isn’t a new conversation. We’ve been having it for generations, around kitchen tables, in community halls, in classrooms that didn’t have the language for it yet. It’s no coincidence that so many of us wrestle with what it means to be both Black and British while living in a country that still struggles to acknowledge the impact Black history has had on shaping it. When we go looking for that connection to our roots, we often hit a wall, whether that’s a curriculum that left us out, archives that are hard to reach, or stories that were never passed down because no one thought they mattered. They matter. Black history is British history, and it doesn’t belong in one month. It belongs in every month, every classroom and every conversation. ✨ The more we share, the more we reclaim. And the more we reclaim, the more we leave behind for the generations who come after us, so they never have to wonder whether they belong in the story. Where did you first learn about Black British history? Tell us in the comments 👇 #BHM #TheBlackCurriculum #BlackHistory365 #BlackHistoryIsBritishHistory #TBH365

Three lectures in, and the last one brings two powerhouse voices to the room. Annabelle Woghiren is an activist, educator, speaker and storyteller working at the intersection of culture, human rights and social justice. A TEDx speaker and TikTok Voice for Change Creator of the Year finalist, she’s built a community of 250,000+ people exploring identity, belonging and what it takes to build more connected, just and nurturing communities. Tianna Johnson is a screenwriter, essayist, cultural organiser and archivist. The youngest recipient of a Brit List placement (2021), she founded Black Girls Camping Trip, writes the Substack Black British Radicals, and leads an archive project preserving the stories of elders in Britain, work that earned her the Olive Morris Memorial Award for Decolonising the Archive. 🕡 Doors open 6.30pm 📍 Prince of Peckham 🎟️ Tickets from £5 ➡️ ow.ly/w1yz50ZOELP Don’t miss it. This #FunFactFriday, we’re remembering a young woman who proved you don’t need a long life to leave a lasting mark. At 17, Olive Morris saw a Nigerian diplomat being stopped by police in Brixton and refused to look the other way. She stepped in, and her fight for justice began there. In her short life of just 27 years, she squatted 121 Railton Road, a hub for Black radical politics in Brixton. She co-founded the Brixton Black Women’s Group, helped launch OWAAD, and set up the Manchester Black Women’s Co-operative, all while studying at the University of Manchester. Today her name lives on in Brixton through Olive Morris House, the Olive Morris Collection at Lambeth Archives, and even a Brixton Pound note. 🖤 Who’s a change-maker you think more people should know about? Jazz was born from hardship, and it turned that hardship into power. 🎷✊🏾 Rooted in the experience of Black communities after slavery, jazz carried grief and joy in the same breath. It was a way to speak, to heal, and to push back. Artists like Billie Holiday and voices like Terence Blanchard remind us that the music has always been tied to lived truth. Yet the story doesn’t end there. As the genre spread, credit and acceptance often shifted toward white musicians, and even sounds like jungle, which grew out of the Windrush generation, have been reframed and detached from their origins. So why are these histories barely touched in the classroom? Understanding where our music comes from shouldn’t be optional. It’s part of understanding who built it and why. 📚 Swipe through, share this with someone, and ask what your own school or university teaches about Black music history. 🖼️ Visit exhibitions and galleries that honour Black musicians and keep the conversation going. #BlackCurriculum #TBH365 #BHMIs365 #BlackMusicHistory #JazzHistory
