For 10 years, I've been on X/Twitter, mostly reading.
It's been one of the best places to follow the metals market and the people who move it.
But I've mostly been on the receiving end: I've taken a lot of information from here and given very little back.
Starting now, I'd like to change that.
I've spent more than 25 years in mineral exploration, finding deposits, financing them and building companies around them.
A lot of what I know came from people who shared what they'd learned, and I'd like to do the same.
So if we haven't met yet, I'm Ivan Bebek, and I:
• Founded
@CoppernicoMetal (TSX: COPR, OTCQB: CPPMF), where I'm Chair and CEO.
• We're exploring Sombrero, a copper-gold project in southern Peru, in the same part of the Andes that hosts some of the world's largest copper mines.
• Co-founded Keegan Resources, which made a 5 million ounce gold discovery. That discovery is now a producing mine, run today as Galiano Gold.
• Co-founded and ran Cayden Resources as President and CEO. We drilled more than 100 holes and sold the company to Agnico Eagle for $205 million in 2014.
• Was Executive Chairman of Auryn Resources, which we split into three companies by metal: Fury Gold Mines, Tier One Silver (where I'm still Chair) and Coppernico.
• Spent about 9 years bringing the communities around Sombrero on side before we got our first drill permits there. In Peru, that work comes before everything else.
Yes, I've been lucky to be part of some real exploration success.
But I've also lived the hard side of this business: long timelines, permits that slip, and markets that go quiet right when you need them.
And it's those lessons I want to share, plainly and honestly.
That means what I'm seeing in the copper market, why good new copper deposits have become so hard to find, what it really takes to build a mine in the Andes, and the honest story of building
@CoppernicoMetal.
Above all, I'm here to share the market news that matters. Following the markets closely has driven much of my exploration and thinking over the past few years, and I'll be giving my take on the news as it happens.
If that's useful to you, follow along
@IvanjBebek.
