Williams had a good anecdote in this response too: He said House missed an aggressive steal. Bucknell turned his error into a 3-pointer, and House went back to the huddle and said, "Coach, I promise I thought I was going to get that one." Here's the play he was referencing ⬇️
Buzz Williams on Kaden House: “I told him about six weeks ago, ‘you have some gifts that were in your mother’s womb, and I’m not going to object to those gifts, but if I could mention one thing to you, we need you to be available to play whenever I want to play you.’”

Buzz Williams on Maryland freshman Kaden House’s skillset: “I love him, he’s an outlier… I told him about six weeks ago, ‘You have some gifts that were in your mother’s womb’ — and I’m not going to object to those gifts.” House scored 14 points off the bench in Monday’s win.

Buzz Williams on Baba Oladotun’s early struggles in his debut: “Any 17-year-old that’s supposed to be in high school, … in his hometown state in game number one, he’s going to be sped up. We had some 23-year-olds that were sped up.”

Buzz Williams on making mass substitutions in Maryland basketball's win over Bucknell on Monday: "When there's a lack of execution on either end, that's one good thing about having depth... Sometimes the best words that I can have are none and just sub them out."

Maryland basketball's 2025-26 and 2026-27 teams don't have much in common. But one area that's strikingly similar? Rebounding. Last season, the Terps ranked third in the Big Ten in offensive boards a game (12.2). They've got 13 in tonight's opener... and it's only halftime.

Terps have gone cold — they've missed their last eight shots and haven't scored in the last 2:28. Buzz Williams brought a full new five off the bench, in Brown, House, Oladotun, Boswell and Jennings, less than seven minutes into the game.

Maryland leads Bucknell, 12-7, at the first media timeout. Lots of ball movement and efficient offensive possessions — four of the Terps' five starters have scored. Already a completely different look than last year's team, which ranked 254th in D1 pace.

Nice detail — the Terps video board has a throwback vibe (I’m assuming this will stick during the game). It complements the 2002 national championship jerseys they’re donning tonight.
