Football isn’t supposed to be comfortable because life isn’t always comfortable.
We don’t teach our players to play to the scoreboard. We teach them to play to a standard.
That standard doesn’t change because we’re winning. It doesn’t change because we’re losing. It doesn’t change because the score is close or out of hand.
I don’t believe in teaching kids to feel sorry for themselves or to expect an opponent to stop competing because the score got uncomfortable.
You earn respect by competing, not by asking someone else to stop. If the two coaches have mutual respect, understand each other’s philosophy and both teams are competing for four quarters, then let’s play ball and when it’s all done we’ll shake it up at the 50 and move on.
