Today, Minister Pemmy Majodina and I conducted an oversight visit to the Mokolo-Crocodile Water Augmentation Project Phase 2 in Limpopo. This R19.7 billion strategic infrastructure project, which entails the transfer of raw water through an approximately 140km pipeline from Thabazimbi to Lephalale, remains critical to ensuring long-term water security and unlocking the economic potential of the Waterberg District. Our responsibility is to ensure that projects of this magnitude are implemented with the necessary urgency, efficiency and accountability. Upon completion, the project will augment water supply to key strategic industries, including Eskom’s Medupi and Matimba power stations, Exxaro’s Grootgeluk Mine and other commercial and industrial users. Water is a catalyst for socio-economic development. As government, we remain resolute in our commitment to accelerating infrastructure delivery, securing our water resources and advancing the transformation of our economy in the interests of our people.

Oversight Visit to Bronkhorstspruit Following Gastrointestinal Illness Outbreak Today, we joined Gauteng CoGTA MEC Jacob Mamabolo and the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Dr Nasiphi Moya, on an oversight visit to Bronkhorstspruit following reports of increased cases of stomach cramps and diarrhoea across Tshwane’s Region 7. Together with Rand Water Group Chief Executive Sipho Mosai and technical teams from the Departments of Water and Sanitation and Health, the Gauteng Provincial Government and the City of Tshwane, we inspected the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works and the raw water abstraction point. We also visited affected households to assess the situation firsthand and engage with residents. The health and safety of our communities remain paramount. All spheres of government must work together to establish the cause of the illnesses and ensure a coordinated and effective response.
