Plant cells undergo incomplete division and remain connected. This image illustrates two daughter cells linked by strands of endoplasmic reticulum spanning plasmodesmata—tiny bridges for intercellular communication. New findings in Science reveal that the endoplasmic reticulum holds these bridges open during cell division; without it, plasmodesmata close, addressing a long-standing question about how to combine cell division and communication. bit.ly/3C5Urfe

🙏🏻 piped.video/F_e-B1pKJwg?feature…
#Taldiacomahir fa 153 anys naixia l’escriptor i poeta francès Paul Valéry.

They show that it all depends on the #endoplasmicreticulum (ER), an organelle known for its complex network of channels. When a plant cell divides, strands of ER pass through and hold the plasmodesmata open; without them, the plasmodesmata close. Movie © Hortense Moreau

Snails 🐚 are slow, but they can evolve fast! Our new paper shows how one ecotype evolved into another on a tiny island 🏝️ within 30 years - and that we could predict changes at the phenotypic, but also at the genetic 🧬 level. 1/3 #Evolution #Genomics science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…
