This would be very welcome news. 87% of small businesses want Canada and the US to negotiate an agreement as quickly as possible. 30% of Canadian SMEs say they are at risk of permanent closure within the next 12 months if this is unresolved.
Carney’s positive trade talk comments were accompanied by an equally positive statement from the White House given to Global News #cdnpoli “The Trump Administration welcomes continued engagement with Canada as we work toward finalizing the details of a deal that will deliver meaningful results for the American people”

1/ Tax reform is back in the spotlight. And with rumours of a small business tax rate cut in the Nov. 5 federal budget, we're hearing a familiar argument again that I call “the mantra”: A lower small business tax rate encourages firms to stay small, so it should be scrapped. đŸ§”

If true, these budget rumours would be a big deal for small business. CFIB has been pushing hard for a reduction in the small business corporate rate from 9 to 6%. In addition, for more than a decade, we've been calling for a lower rate of EI premiums for smaller payrolls. We've suggested smaller firms have their EI rate tied 1:1 with the employee rate, rather than the current 1.4 multiplier. Fingers crossed for Nov 5. nationalpost.com/news/canada

It is great to see a new federal red tape reduction strategy which includes several long-standing CFIB recommendations.  The new requirement for regulators to reduce regulatory burden costs by $2 for every $1 added is a significant step forward.
