At the launch of Rwanda Sustainable Finance Roadmap 2.0, financial sector leaders came together for a panel discussion under the theme “Connecting Capital with Climate Ambitions”, addressing what it takes to turn climate priorities into investment that changes lives.
▶️ Emma Msowoya, Country Head of
@ApexGlobalGroup Rwanda, discussed the importance of roadmaps like Rwanda Sustainable Finance Roadmap 2.0 for investors when they decide where to place capital in Africa.
She emphasized that investors do not invest in opportunities alone; they invest in ecosystems. She explained that Rwanda Sustainable Finance Roadmap 2.0 gives investors confidence in a long-term plan, signals continuity and strengthens Rwanda’s sustainable investment ecosystem.
▶️
@TeddyMugabo_, CEO of
@GreenFundRw, discussed the building blocks needed to establish a high-integrity carbon market that inspires investor confidence, delivers credible climate outcomes and generates meaningful value for Rwanda’s economy.
She underscored the crucial role of a robust governance and regulatory framework with clear, enforceable and coordinated rules; carbon accounting, monitoring, reporting and verification to ensure climate outcomes are real and verifiable; and a strong pipeline of projects to supply carbon credits.
▶️ Joseph Owolabi (
@opejoe), Founder of Rubicola Consulting, offered perspectives on how the Roadmap helps institutions move from ambition to implementation and how it gives them what they need to move faster.
He underscored Rwanda’s strength as ‘’an ecosystem that actually works’’. He noted that Roadmap 2.0 identifies gaps and challenges, including the need for local capital to make blended finance work, and called for more institutions to issue green and sustainability-linked bonds to move from framework to implementation.
