Cat Matlala Alleges Former Lawyer Told Him Suspended Police Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya Would Kill His Entire Family If He Revealed The Full Truth About Their Relationship Before Parliament
Businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has accused his former lawyer, Forbay, of pressuring him to conceal details about his relationship with suspended police deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya while testifying before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee. The allegations are contained in an affidavit in which Matlala claims his former legal representative influenced his testimony.
Matlala alleges that Forbay told him Sibiya had threatened to kill members of his family if he revealed the full details of their relationship. He further claims that his former lawyer contacted Sibiya during breaks in the committee proceedings and received instructions on how Matlala should respond to questions put to him.
According to Matlala’s affidavit, Forbay allegedly called Sibiya in his presence during adjournments, allowing Sibiya to communicate what questions Matlala would face and how he should answer them. Matlala also alleges that he was instructed to change his account of visits to Sibiya’s home by claiming he had gone there only to collect his wife.
The allegations raise questions about whether Matlala’s testimony before Parliament was influenced by his former lawyer and whether he fully disclosed the nature of his relationship with Sibiya. However, the claims remain allegations contained in Matlala’s affidavit and have not been established as facts.
