Honestly, I’m not even sure where to start, but let me first say I’m scared shit outta my mind. But with God, ALL Things Are Possible.
First lemme say, NO, I’m not leaving HBCU Nightly, that will never happen because the space gave me room to see my light & how bright it is.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved sports. Growing up with my great-grandmother & great-great aunt in our Full House, we never missed a UNC basketball game or a Chicago Bulls game — Mike’s 2nd 3-peat, by the way.
Since 2020, God has given me a vision that I couldn’t quite put together. But it kept chasing me — through the work I was doing, the people I met, the moves I made & the conversations I was having.
From Clubhouse to group chats to
@hbcunightly, there hasn’t been a day I’m not discussing sports.
But over the last 7 months, it finally hit me. My passion for HBCUs & everything happening across the sports landscape was where it all came together. The research, the data, the analysis, the conversations led to the development of a strategic plan. But how that plan will get in the hands of those who need it is where I struggled.
Then MEAC Media Day happened. I never thought I’d find myself in front of a camera, let alone doing interviews. Everyone always told me I should be, but I always believed my work belonged behind the scenes.
But God said otherwise. If I want my body work to reach the people it needs to, this is the direction you must go.
Now it’s clear that HBCU Unplugged is meant to be a space to tell HBCU sports stories differently — through the conversations, people, culture, business & moments that deserve a little more room.
Everything I’ve been building has been leading me here.
And to be transparent, I’m not even sure how I’m going to financially make all of this work — but watch God work. The blessings & testimony that will come from this will bless someone.
To everyone who has helped me LEAP through encouragement, education, conversation or simply believing in me — THANK YOU. To my
@hbcunightly family, thank you for all the conversation’s & encouragement. I love y’all to ♾️ & we still have more work to do.
