Last week, Commissioner @HenmackIII visited the North Florida Worlds of Work career expo, where students connected with local professionals and explored career opportunities through hands-on experiences. In Florida, we’re committed to empowering every student to choose the career path that’s right for them—and giving them every resource needed to succeed.

Our @cpschoolsva 8th graders had an amazing time at the Worlds of Work (WOW) Career Expo today! Students explored MANY different career opportunities through exciting, hands-on experiences and connected with local professionals.

This morning, I reached out to @FAMUPRESMARVAJ to share, on behalf of the @SUS_Florida Board of Governors, our deep sadness for the victims of the violence that occurred during homecoming weekend after the game last night. Bad enough that anyone was injured, but that innocent children were injured makes this all the more horrifying. President Johnson has our full support as she leads the Rattler Nation through this. Please pray for her and for all who were directly affected by this shooting. And pray for law enforcement to bring those who are responsible to justice. There is NO place for violence, and certainly not related to a college event where students, children and the general public may be victims.

Our hearts are with the victims and everyone affected by tonight’s incident on Perry Street. Please avoid the area as Tallahassee police investigate. Read the University’s statement below and follow official University channels for updates.

My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and the entire Rattler community after last night’s tragic shooting near @FAMU_1887. As a Tallahassee resident, this hits especially close to home. Violence of any kind has no place in our communities. No student, no child, no family should have to experience the fear and heartbreak of senseless violence. @EducationFL stands with FAMU’s students, faculty, and staff. Grateful to the Tallahassee Police Department and all first responders who responded so quickly. We pray for healing for everyone impacted.

85 YEARS OF IMPACT. Yesterday, Commissioner @HenmackIII joined our Division of Blind Services at their 85th anniversary celebration in Tallahassee. We’re committed to continuing our work to expand opportunity and accessibility for Floridians who are blind or visually impaired.

Last night, we came together for our annual Fall Festival! Between the splashes at the dunk tank and the laughs (and whipped cream!) at pie-in-the-face, there was no shortage of fun! It was a night full of school spirit and memories that make this tradition so special.

Protecting Florida’s students, educators, and school communities is a shared mission. Tim Hay, Executive Director of our Office of Safe Schools, reinforced that message this week in a conversation with education leaders on emerging school safety challenges—and how we can break down silos, strengthen collaboration, and work together to create safer learning environments. Cybersecurity is national security—and we must be prepared by building a workforce equipped to protect our future. Last month, we announced a partnership with @PolkState to launch a Cybersecurity Registered Apprenticeship program. Apprentices in this program will train in computer forensics, system security, and ethical hacking while receiving PAID, on-the-job training. Florida law prohibits loyalty oaths and diversity statements in admissions, hiring, employment, promotion, tenure, disciplinary, and evaluation processes. Our public universities remain focused on qualifications, achievement, and merit.

Miami Dade College and the City of Miami Gardens are launching a one-year registered apprenticeship to prepare the next generation of 911 dispatchers. The program combines paid work experience, hands-on training and classroom instruction to strengthen South Florida’s public safety workforce. Thanks to MDC Alumni Hall of Famer @ChiefNoelPratt for her partnership on this initiative, and to @MayorRHarris and MDC alum @RLStephens3_ for their continued leadership and support.
