Vanderbilt PhD candidate in the Burnette lab @MAG2ART. Interested in studying cellular mysteries via microscopy and also rocks, plants, stars, and cats.

Graduate student @EmmaKoory in Dylan Burnette's lab (@MAG2ART) received an honorable mention in the 2026 Nikon Small World competition for a video of a heart cell forming sarcomeres that drive contractions. @VanderbiltCBD

we biologists have truly lost the “plot”
surely this kind of thing shouldn't count as "one" figure

Video of myosin proteins "walking" along actin. Insane that we can image this! It was made by Toshio Ando's group using atomic force microscopy. All of their papers are a goldmine; they've also recorded a Cas9 protein cutting DNA and ATP synthase spinning.

New-found immune cells called ‘ruptoblasts’ explode when triggered, ejecting toxic chemicals capable of delivering death to surrounding cells in just minutes. The cells’ discoverers say that this process, which they call ruptosis, seems to be a new form of cell death. go.nature.com/4x3SZBT

Sometimes blebbisomes like to hitch a ride on cells, like you see here! Extracellular vesicles with a personality indeed! These guys do so many cool and unique things that we will be sharing soon! Stay tuned!#fluorescencefriday #blebbisomes #extracellularvesicle

Excited to share our latest paper, out today @CellCellPress. We found that large pieces of the human genome can transfer between cells upon direct contact, endowing recipient cells with heritable phenotypic changes. (1/7) cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092…

Saw Project Hail Mary last night and the only thing I’ll say is that there’s one scene where Ryan Gosling’s character runs two samples in a fully unbalanced centrifuge. Someone needs to be fired for that

They renamed blebbisomes. The authors claimed erroneously in their paper that blebbisomes are found only in cancer cells, whereas we clearly demonstrated that blebbisomes are produced by normal cells. The structures described here are simply blebbisomes generated by astrocytes.
When key “housekeeper” brain cells grow in lab dishes, they spawn unusual microscopic vesicles that can move on their own and carry energy-generating organelles, a research team revealed. The biologists have dubbed their discovery zombosomes because the blobs can move like cells for a period despite lacking a nucleus, which acts as a cell's control center. The group also showed the membrane-bound messengers ferry proteins related to Parkinson’s disease, suggesting they may contribute to it and other brain disorders. Zebrafish are my new obsession. This is the tail section of an embryo 72 hours post-fertilization imaged with a 20X objective. Actin (phalloidin) and nuclei (DAPI) are shown. It's incredible how this was a single cell 3 days ago!! @MAG2ART #sciencesunday #cellbiology #scitwitter
