BREAKING: The Nov. 15 closure at East Potomac Park is bigger than the golf course.
Latest DOJ filing: "On November 15, 2026, the National Park Service will close East Potomac Park south of Buckeye Drive, including the Golf Course, consistent with the President's directive."
That takes in nearly all of Hains Point — the running loop, the bike and pedestrian lane, the picnic areas. Not just the 36 golf holes.
The stated reason for closing that much: a seawall "currently crumbling into the Potomac River." The government says that closure "must occur in all events" — regardless of the golf course redesign.
The filing doesn't say how long the park stays closed.
Also in it: the Park Service signed a new lease with National Links Trust today. NLT stops operating East Potomac on or before Nov. 15 — but keeps running Rock Creek and Langston.
The filing then says the course must close "because there will be no company to operate that course."
