Is there gas everywhere, but not in the BLACK SEA?
THERE IS!
Featuring countries: 🇧🇬 Bulgaria, 🇬🇪 Georgia, 🇷🇴 Romania, 🇷🇺 Russia, 🇹🇷 Türkiye, 🇺🇦 Ukraine
The Black Sea is not an empty basin. Public discoveries already show that it is an important gas region.
🇹🇷 Türkiye says its total announced Black Sea gas discoveries have reached 785 bcm.
🇷🇴 Romania's Neptun Deep is estimated at around 100 bcm of recoverable gas.
But an important note is needed: not all gas numbers mean the same thing.
- Announced discoveries = gas that has been publicly reported as found
- Reserves / recoverable gas = the part that can realistically be produced
So, these figures are not always directly comparable.
For Türkiye, according to Türkiye's Energy Ministry, an independent technical reassessment by DeGolyer and MacNaughton led to an upward revision of Sakarya's estimated gas reserves from 540 bcm to 652 bcm in 2022
Other Black Sea countries may also hold meaningful gas resources, but comparable commercially confirmed volumes have not yet been clearly established in public data.
