There are many other older people on the Mornington Peninsula living alone with significant care needs. Now that our Council no longer provides #agedcare services, who is helping older people access the support they need? @healthgovau @gedkearney @Mark_Butler_MP @AnikaWells

Leadership for large-scale change: distinctive challenges, emerging responses – part 3. (See my previous tweets for parts 1 & 2) As participants in the event, we got access to some excellent new resources from The @AspenInstitute and the Higher Ambition Leadership Alliance. I particularly wanted to share chapter five: “Highlights from the literature on changing social systems”. It identifies five core themes that are critical in applied practice for leadership of large scale change: 1) Changing systems requires leaders to steward a process that embraces three core principles; i) systemic thinking and action; ii) multistakeholder engagement, and iii) experimental and emergent responses. 2) Achieving large-scale change requires working across multiple levels over time, employing mutually reinforcing roles and strategies. 3) To achieve fundamental change, leaders need to address and navigate issues related to power relationships with multiple people across the system. 4) Making progress on a complex challenge is an iterative, long-term grind, full of friction. 5) Leading and participating in system change requires change leaders to name, embrace and creatively navigate a variety of tensions. This freely available chapter would make a fantastic topic for a change leaders’ reading group or journal club. Please share! static1.squarespace.com/stat… Part 4 tomorrow.

NHMRC is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Professor Rinaldo Bellomo AO. A global leader in biomedical science, Professor Bellomo will be remembered for his remarkable legacy in intensive care medicine. We extend our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Dear friends and colleagues, It is with overwhelming sadness that we share news of the death of our colleague, mentor and friend, Rinaldo Bellomo. During recent days, both he and his family have received dedicated, expert and compassionate care from some of the finest in our ICU community. We share their pain and sense of loss. Over several decades, Rinaldo has made a profound and enduring impact on ICU practice in Australia, New Zealand and around the world. As a passionate researcher he challenged conventions, championed evidence-based practice in the care of the critically ill and supported countless colleagues in their research careers. As a compassionate mentor, colleague and friend, he touched and enriched numerous lives, and will be greatly missed. His loss will affect our whole community and in due course there will be opportunities to come together to celebrate his life. This will be a difficult time for many, but we know that our memories of Rinaldo’s relentless enthusiasm, warmth, optimism and boundless energy will help us all through the weeks ahead. In lieu of flowers, Rinaldo's family would welcome donations to support his research legacy at austin-health-community-fund… Our sincere condolences and best wishes go out to his family, friends and colleagues. Craig Carr, on behalf of the ANZICS community
