We observe inertial behaviour for the coalescence (this GIF)/ stretching separation (GIF above) transition, with the latter outcome occurring only above a certain aspect ratio. Using this value as a criterion, we propose a simple but robust model to predict the transition.
Join us for a virtual @UKFluidsNetwork Drop Dynamics SIG meeting - Tuesday 29th June - featuring 8 speakers based in 5 countries. Inkjet, impact, surfactants, wetting and more! To join: forms.gle/fnkSCfWfrHtMfqik7 Open to all - register soon as capacity is limited! @EPSRC#DropsSIG
For PhDs & postdocs at Leeds (we aim to open future events to others too), the next @FluidsLeeds#ECR forum is on Wednesday, with presentations from @JohnAsh92 and @hannah_krec. Check your email for the link to join the meeting.
Remote teaching of differential equations is requiring a bit of creativity. Here is my home made (literally) visualiser, consisting of a cantilevered phone and desk lamp. Simple but works surprisingly well; allows me to explain the maths like I usually do on the whiteboard.
First paper from my PhD, published today in @PhysRevFluids! Mixing, surface jets, Marangoni flow and more! Check it out at link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/Phy…. Open-access link to follow. [Continued]
Just putting the finishing touches to my slides for #APSDFD. Come find out about internal flows in coalescing droplets, Saturday 3pm, Session A22, Room 604. Joint work between @FluidsLeeds, @OxfordFluids and @QMULSEMS.
I've enjoyed a brilliant #droplets2019 conference @durham_uni these last few days. Excellent talks, people and organisation. This is academia at its best.
I enjoyed a wonderful inkjet workshop @lorentzcenter in the Netherlands last week. I learnt a lot, got some good work done and met friends old and new. Thanks @poftwente for organising a great workshop. #phdlife
The @UKFluidsNetwork Drop Dynamics SIG, organised by @EvaAntonFluids and I, day 1 kicked off successfully and going well. Great talks and discussion so far! Especially looking forward to Colin Bain's keynote tomorrow. @FluidsLeeds#proud
Jaguar R3 F1 car @DoningtonParkUK, with a pressure colour map paintwork by @PininfarinaSpA. This was the regular car for @PedrodelaRosa1 during the 2002 season, subsequently used for development work in the Pininfarina wind tunnel. #Fluids#F1
2) I use #OpenFOAM simulations and experiments to study this problem, in various configurations, e.g. a drop impacting another on a surface, for inkjet printing applications. #CDTTweCon
