Paving the way for institutional-grade tokens on the XRP Ledger.
Yesterday we launched
$YELLOW on
$XRP. The reaction was loud, so I want to address what happened, why we built it this way, and where we go from here.
In July 2017, we raised funds from investors into a Parity multisig contract, the industry standard at the time. It was hacked, every dollar was drained, and the project was destroyed before launch. That experience taught me a lesson: security infrastructure matters just as much as the product.
Most XRPL tokens launch from a single key. That works fine for memecoins: launch, burn the issuer key, move on. But institutions operate differently. They require multisig with signer keys stored in deep cold storage.
Because current XRPL ecosystem tooling defaults to single signatures, deploying an institutional-grade asset required us to build directly on xrpl.js. Here is what we implemented:
$YELLOWβs issuer account is secured by native XRPL multisig across hardware wallets. The LP is separate from the issuer, and that is also Multi-sig and then subsequently blackholed. The final signature was confirmed today. Coordination across distributed signers takes time, but the security trade-off is non-negotiable. We will open-source our entire multisig deployment toolkit so future teams can replicate this setup without the friction.
Why build this on XRPL?
On Ethereum, multisig, AMMs, and bridges rely on smart contracts that introduce exploit risk. On XRPL, these primitives are built directly into the L1 protocol layer. XRPL was designed for liquidity: native DEX order books, native AMMs, and built-in auto-bridging keep markets aligned. I know because I was one of the first Market Makers on XRPL since 2013. Now we just started actively making markets on the native DEX so XRPL stays synchronized with Ethereum pools like Uniswap, while keeping bridge exposure minimal to eliminate systemic risk. This is how Ripple originally intended for liquidity to work on the liquidity network they designed.
Addressing the launch volatility:
We seeded an initial $10k test pool, but the community arrived far faster than anticipated, driving sharp volatility. To stabilize trading conditions, I added 68,888 XRP and 436,245 YELLOW in liquidity today:

In hindsight, we should have engaged the community before deploying the test pool. Lesson learned: we hear you, and weβre building this in public.
Ethereum Foundation provided the infrastructure, but ETH captured value because of what was built: Uniswap, MakerDAO, Aave, and tokenized funds like BlackRock's BUIDL.
@Ripple gave us the infrastructure: XRP Ledger! Now itβs time to build the ecosystem that brings institutional capital onto the ledger.
