French Ambassador to the United States Laurent Bili presented Fred Ryan, Chairman of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, with the insignia of Knight of the Legion of Honor.
In bestowing France’s highest national order, the French government recognized Fred Ryan’s “invaluable contributions to the longstanding partnership between the United States and France.”
“The Légion d’honneur recognizes not only professional achievement but a lifetime of service and commitment, in your case, service to your country, to democratic institutions, to the free press… to the friendship between France and the United States.” Ambassador Bili said.

🇺🇦🇫🇷🇺🇸 Soon heading home to Kyiv again, but during my next visit to Washington I may already miss in DC a wonderful friend and extraordinarily accomplished diplomat — Ambassador of France to the United States Laurent Bili, with whom we have worked together since 2023, brought many joint projects to life, and together strengthened the friendship between Ukraine, France with our American friends. The proximity of UkraineHouse to the Ambassador's residence — where all these years a replica of the Statue of Liberty has stood wrapped in the Ukrainian flag, reminding everyone of our fight for freedom and the importance of Ukraine's victory — makes this all the more meaningful. This is especially symbolic in the year of America's 250th anniversary, as France played a decisive role in helping the United States defend its freedom and independence back then. And now France and the EU are doing the same in defense of our freedom and shared values — and working together closely with the United States can greatly strengthen this and bring our Victory closer.

In Newport, RI, I took part in a commemoration of the landing of the Expédition Particulière on July 11, 1780. The lasting brotherhood-in-arms that Rochambeau’s troops forged with the Continental Army proved crucial in the fight for freedom.
