Happy publication day to the Discworld Bestiary! It's absolutely jam-packed with creatures and critters. Here's Discworld illustrator Paul Kidby talking about his favourite beast(s) from the book...
I just heard that games legend @TheLevelord Richard Gray passed away. Many designers from his era had huge egos, but he was a very sweet and gentle soul, and, as a mutual friend said 'interested in everything and everyone'. Offering up a cup of Yorkshire Tea for you, Richard! ❤️
ALT A snowy landscape in shades of blue and purple with tall fir trees. Three characters are making their way through the golden lit snow in the centre of the image, an older redhaired woman in a cloak, the main character, Liv, a young girl with red hair is in the middle carrying an axe, a third hooded character, possibly male, behind her. An eagle is sweeping through the air behind them. In the background, against a pink sky, looms a mountain which almost appears like a figure with their face turned down.. A blue stone shines on the book spine, in its centre is a Norse rune.
It's Dyslexia Awareness Week, and my brilliant publisher @BarringtonStoke, which specialises in books for young people with dyslexia (and others who find reading challenging), have discounts on all their books, including mine!

Today’s top discovery in Tokyo… just about to get out of a lukewarm bath when I realised the bath has a reheat function. I may never leave the bathroom again!

I’m reading up on #PeakCluster which will impact countryside near me. In a nutshell:
Instead of forcing cement and lime producers to cut emissions, a huge pipeline will be built to transport CO₂ across the country and bury it under the Irish sea.
Basically, helping out polluters
Construction means digging up hundreds of kilometers of countryside, damaging habitats, disrupting communities and releasing carbon in the process.
All to keep high-emitting plants running exactly as they do now.
Real climate leadership would make polluters cut emissions, incentivise cleaner production, and invest in low-carbon industry.
Instead we’re spending billions on spineless solutions to help industries hide pollution rather than reduce it. Treat the cause, not the symptoms.
I enjoy my visits to @highgate1565 so much! It's such an honour that this madcap 80's adventure based on the game by @rexbox & @oneofmoo has been a core text for hundreds of pupils! Loved talking about myths and legends and seeing pupils create Highgate dwelling mythical beasts!
Many thanks to children's author @GabrielleKent for leading her workshop with our Year 3 Junior School pupils who are reading her book, 'Knights & Bikes' as part of their core text. Author visits are a great way for pupils to engage with characters and bring books to life.
This week I'm visiting three Teesside schools with @Literacy_Trust to talk about writing with a Halloween twist. Popped this in for teachers as old as me and just learnt that carving turnips wasn't just a poor 80s kid thing, it's an old Celt tradition to ward off evil at Samhain!
Me after delivering an online session to students... 'That went well. I actually managed to sit still and not gesticulate too much THAT time!'
Me on the session recording.
Thought Bubble is brilliant enough, but now it's even better for Northern kids authors and illustrators. Make sure to say hi to the @books_north folks and join the network if you're there!
Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.
A friendly reminder that ALL of my books have FREE resources created by far cleverer people than me.
Obviously, it would be amazing if my books were being read for the pure joy of it, but knowing they are popular as classroom texts is pretty cool too.
