I wrote a book this summer about the cattle cycle. It’s been a fun project, and I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

The early exit poll data appear to indicate that the cows are 100% in favor of the cover crops.

Thanks a bunch Shay. I sure appreciate that. I’m looking forward to it too.
Buy this book by @GarthGatson and read it. You will not regret it. Ripped through it in two days. Look forward to having Garth on the podcast soon. Link on Amazon here: a.co/d/0858nCy1

Last week turned into a series of things that were beyond what I am really qualified for. One of those was Barn Talk. Thanks @SawyerWhisler and @TorkWhisler for having me and @taylorcmoyer for getting us together. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

One thing about this never-ending summer, we did grow some nice October cover crops.

Same field, different year. We shelled corn about the 1st of September and got a big rain. This picture was taken October 3rd.

This afternoon I was thinking about selling cows and studying the book of Matthew for church tomorrow. It occurred to me that following Jesus Christ can be thought of like the ultimate sell-buy trade. “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

Maybe if I just pretend that I don’t know what nice bred heifers are worth I won’t have to acknowledge that the big end of mine are probably too valuable to keep…

Some of my ancestors rode to Lincoln County Missouri on horses from Virginia in the early 1830’s. They liked the country so much that they stayed. We’ve had some cattle here ever since.

It’s another good day to be a cow. The cover crops are starting to kick in a little bit.

Thanks @jdknock and Justin for giving Abel’s Rally a shoutout. I appreciate it. If you ever want to talk about the book, I’m easy to get ahold of. (But no, I don’t know anything about mushrooms) podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

I will have some young, home-raised pairs for sale later this fall. Their early fall calves are starting to grow up and fill out a little bit.

Forecasts like this are why I decided to supplement some pairs rather than weaning calves.

There are currently almost 2,400 bred heifers on Williamson Land & Cattle listed for less than $4,000. Most of them look pretty good. There is a lot yet to develop in the bred heifer market, but that’s probably not a great sign for those hoping to sell $4500 heifers this fall.

It’s a good day to be a cow. Or to read about one.

Abel’s Rally is now available as an e-book in addition to the paperback format. It is also enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. I’m thankful for the positive initial feedback the book has received, and I look forward to sharing it with a wider audience.
