An emboldened Gov. Wes Moore on Wednesday took a jab at his opponent and also kept Spotlight on Maryland out of a press conference. His campaign sent the invite, but his state comms team accompanied him. Moore has secured another decisive victory, but he is currently performing below his 2022 margin against the same Republican opponent. That’s interesting in one of the bluest states in the nation, where he was heavily favored, and after Democrats have posted huge margins — even in southern red states. While other Democratic governors are posting bigger wins this year than in 2022, Moore is still about 3 percentage points behind. Still some precincts, mail-in and provisional ballots to count, which will likely favor him. But it’s interesting in a year with a blue tsunami and historic Democratic rout that Moore isn’t posting even stronger numbers in one of the bluest states in the nation.

COMPARISON: While votes are still coming in at this late hour, as of this moment, GOP challenger Dan Cox has increased his percentage against Maryland Gov. Wes Moore compared with 2022 numbers, despite a national blue wave. If it holds, what would it mean for Moore's future?

MARYLAND GOV. WES MOORE'S VICTORY: Focusing on the larger stage, Maryland's newly reelected governor took aim at national leaders. "If anyone thinks I am slowing down, I want to be very clear to you: you have got another thing coming," Moore said. "That's not what Marylanders voted for; and tonight, Marylanders did not just vote for a governor, guys." There was a pause that was met with applause from attendees. Earlier, Moore addressed criticisms he has faced throughout his administration, which have focused on the practical nature of his public policy commitments. "Now I know when I say these things, people say that it sounds really ambitious, and I know our goals are ambitious," Moore said. "I want to be clear: America is tired of mealy-mouthed, weak-kneed, so-called leaders who tell us running fast on a treadmill is somehow taking us somewhere."
