OSCAR SANDIFORD:
ANOTHER SPURS ACADEMY NAME TO REMEMBER
Tottenham defender Oscar Sandiford has been named in The Guardian’s prestigious Next Generation 2026 list, highlighting the best first-year scholars at each Premier League club.
The recognition continues an impressive rise for the 16-year-old.
Sandiford is primarily a defender who can play at centre-back, but has established himself at right-back for Tottenham’s Under-18s.
Remarkably, he played regularly at that level last season while still a schoolboy.
The Guardian describes him as the most advanced of a talented group of first-year scholars currently coming through at Hotspur Way, highlighting his strength, speed and ability to attack from full-back. One club source described his forward runs as being “like a bull.”
Sandiford joined Tottenham from Crystal Palace at 14 and has a genuine connection with the club. His father is a lifelong Spurs supporter, and Oscar himself attended matches at the old White Hart Lane growing up.
His development has already extended beyond club football.
After representing England a year above his age group at Under-17 level, Sandiford has progressed into the Under-18 setup and recently started England’s 2-1 victory over South Korea in the UEFA Friendship Cup.
He was also part of the Tottenham group that won the Under-16 Premier League Cup before becoming a full-time scholar this summer.
The Guardian recognition continues a long line of Spurs players, including Luca Williams-Barnett, George Feeney, Mikey Moore, Jamie Donley, Alfie Devine, Harvey White, Oliver Skipp, and others.
There is a lot of excitement around Oscar's potential in N17; let's hope he continues his impressive rise to the first team.
